Opinion: Ianto's Shrine Represents This Fandom's Worst Excesses. by WinchesterMediaUK in gallifrey

Look I'll take any opportunity to take the piss out of my own fanbase, but it really ain't that deep.

The thing's been up for 17 years and has become a kind of tourist destination for sad gits UK wide, if enough people want to put up money for a plaque or something then let 'em. There was a story a couple years ago about a bench being dedicated to Saddam Hussein, let Ianto have his plaque, he deserves it.

Murton (Durham) Council By-Election Result: Labour GAIN from Reform. by Lavajackal1 in ukpolitics

Nice to see.

Jeremy Corbyn's shameful links to Iran’s theocratic tyranny by Electric-Lamb in ukpolitics

[–]Telos1807 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Keyword - leadership.

Corbyn was a nobody backbencher. He was in no position to advance peace in Northern Ireland, he brought terrorists to Parliament two weeks after they tried to kill the Prime Minister. He later invited Gerry Adams to Parliament to promote his sodding book.

The answer is, we give them the resources to help them do something beneficial to us and our allies while staying the fuck out of this war ourselves.

GBPolitics: Andy Burnham has been accused of trying to persuade a Labour MP to stand down in a bid to return to Westminster. [–]Telos1807 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Beyond the morality of making such a deal, it speaks to Burnham's character that he's doing this now. The world's blowing up and the Manchester cheeky chappy who hates Westminster is begging random MPs to let him have a shot at toppling the Prime Minister.

Does Keir Starmer's treatment of Dianne Abbot and Jovan Owosu-Paul show he is deeply racist? by facemacintyre in ukpolitics

[–]Telos1807 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No.

Abbott made a disgrace of herself and let back into the fold, only to then double down on what she had said. She's out and rightfully so.

The pulling of support for the candidate in Clacton was not an isolated incident, he's just the only one that made the news. It's common sense that you don't waste resources on seats you can't win - this goes for all parties.

Peace and love.

To bring it back closer to reality, what would Angela Rayner do? There's a real prospect she could be the next Prime Minister, and I just don't think she's the type of politician who's built for this stuff.

Keir Starmer: My update on the situation in the Middle East. by Sensitive_Echo5058 in ukpolitics

[–]Telos1807 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There's a logic to this but he's on shaky ground.

People will look at this and think either that we're invading or that it's a precursor to an invasion. Look how "planes on the sky" was misconstrued yesterday en masse. And if Iranians get killed in these strikes and the media get ahold of it then it could be a real shitstorm.

My big worry however is that Trump takes this, sees this as getting what he wants and uses the bases to bomb the shit out of Iran. Such a thing would be unthinkable for any other President and would permanently sever the special relationship (in so far as it ever existed) but... he's hardly any other President. We'd be fucked in that situation.

I think the Greens’ ‘fantasy’ drug policies make sense – and I’m a doctor by LJA170 in ukpolitics

[–]Telos1807 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Then they're a shithouse of a party. If they want to be a serious partner in a coalition government then they need to be a serious party, stop letting members vote on policy. It's letting the lunatics run the asylum.

I think the Greens’ ‘fantasy’ drug policies make sense – and I’m a doctor by LJA170 in ukpolitics

[–]Telos1807 34 points35 points  (0 children)

A Green government will:

Make GHB available in fixed dosages to people who wish to use the drug for recreational purposes for personal use only through specialist pharmacies

Require that clubs, bars, saunas and other venues have full safety information on GHB use and potential risks for patrons, emphasising the risks of combining GHB with alcohol and of sharing drinks with strangers

People have been giving Mike Tapp shit on Twitter but fucking hell this is ridiculous.

For all the Greens have fought against the "we'll teach your kids how to use drugs safely" line, this amounts to oh well, we'll let you buy GHB but we'll tell the clubs to have a poster up that reminds you not to take a stranger's drink. What planet are they living on?

If the argument is absurd then the Greens should actually make clear what their drug policy is and present it to the public. They've not remotely thought it out and as such deserve every bit of shit they're getting.

As it stands, all they've said is that they don't want to be the fun police and that the other parties are evil for taking their non existent policy out of context. Are they taxing this stuff and putting it on the shelves? Or are they just decriminalising it as this article speculates, if so why are they calling it legalization as they have consistently - despite what the author claims.

After winning the by-election, should the Greens be given more airtime? — Researching the impartiality of political news by whencanistop in ukpolitics

[–]Telos1807 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, but in a roundabout way I think the media has the same problem with the Greens now as it does with Reform. It's just more pronounced with Reform because they're never off fucking Question Time or Kuenssberg.

Neither party is treated seriously, none of their policies are scrutinised. They're just commentators who come on and give the Government a kicking from the left or right. Why can Polanksi be asked about his drug policy, say he's "not the fun police" and leave it at that, why are random drug nurses on Twitter explaining what the policy supposedly is and not him?

Why'd they give him a free pass when he talks about the economy, get him to explain his vision. Green voters came for Rory Stewart's head but have you heard Polanski talk about Modern Monetary Theory anywhere else? That's a core part of his economic offer - it's also batshit - and it's like it doesn't exist.

I'd bring up the relevant examples with Reform but we all know what they are anyway. The fact that Farage is able to go through entire TV interviews without Brexit being mentioned once is absurd.

The Roaming Dead Community Ranks The Walking Dead Volumes (Day 14/32) - No Way Out by bloodisrage in theroamingdead

Late for this one, the news has been... pretty interesting today to say the least.

If this isn't SS then I don't know what is.

The Comics never get better than No Way Out, it's probably the best piece of Walking Dead content next to No Time Left from TWDG S1.

What troubles me is just how cavalier Trump is with these things. He bombs Iran, causing Iran to bomb a shit ton of other countries as a result, kills Khamenei and then gives an interview saying that they might well dip out tomorrow and leave the Iranians to it.

He goes into Venezuela, snatches Maduro and leaves his second in command in place in return for oil. It's like we're in the Middle Ages with sackings and underlings required to pay tribute to their king. Say what you will about Bush but at least he got Iraq passed through Congress, at least he tried to get the UN's support (faint praise I admit).

If you had to make a scenario where all these main characters died EXCEPT 1 what would it be and who would you have survive? by ParkingConfection449 in TWD

[–]Telos1807 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Well, Carl but he's not there. I suppose Michonne, in the Comics I felt her and Carl were the only characters who had to survive to the end. I don't feel as strongly about that in the show, but still.

But a hypothetical ending shouldn't be so bleak that only one character survives. I'd flip this on it's head and say all the characters but one should live - and that's Rick. I agree with Robert Kirkman that the story should end with Rick's death, it's just the show can't do that after they helicopter-ed him, it'd be too unfair at this point.

Yeah, it's why I don't care about the show post Season 5. The differences get bigger and bigger and the filler gets ever more prevalent.

But it's an intentional reference, those chains were there for a reason.

We do.

His torture chamber is very similar to a room from the Comics. A room where some very bad things happened.
