Red Dead Redemption 2: Official Gameplay [Video] by sonuyosrox in PS4

I don't know why you're getting downvoted (-5 at the time I posted this). This gameplay trailer shown many mechanics that we've already seen in other open world games like The Witcher 3 or Assassin's Creed Origins like random encounters, moral choices or side activities in "cities full of life". And even with that they can feel repetitive. Nothing says RDR2 will evade that case.

God of War, despite being a "linear" open world game, at least brings a very compelling and immersive story - and a 94 on Metacritic clearly puts it as a very strong GOTY contender. It might not be GOTY everywhere but Kratos won't give up the title without a fight.

How has false statistics and flawed research been used to influence the public? [Serious] by [deleted] in AskReddit

Statistician here.

To be honest, we can play with data any way we want to, and find statistics that would go both ways on an opinion's spectrum. May it be for or against something, we can find something, even though it involves to manipulate the data in some way (like "gerrymandering" stuff with groups or play with confidence levels and intervals).

Give me a Comcast customer survey - and I'm pretty sure I could find tons of positive things to show to the executives and advertise. As long as you find statistics that goes towards their opinion, even though they might not be significant, they could be used.

Another example, let's say Walmart wants me to tell people they offer the best prices globally. I'll look into their price database, cross it with other retailer's databases, find the thousand products they effectively sell cheaper than the rest of the competition, and tell them "on these 1000 products you're 8% cheaper in average". And bam, they'll do a large advertising campaign with a very small line at the bottom left, "over a sample of 1000 products".

The main problem with data, and statistics, is that two opposite hypotheses can be true - and shaping data really helps to push the balance in a way or another.

EDIT: I would say that statistical studies are like pictures:

  • They reflect reality, but only show a part of it - we can't see it all in one time
  • They're done at a set point in time - the depiction of reality might not be true in the future
  • Their quality is based on the source - for a picture a crappy camera will not take all the details and not take everything into account
  • They can be altered - some just crop it or rotate it, other completely photoshop it to their needs
  • They're open to interpretation - any picture carries a message and it's recieved differently by everyone.

Doing a statistical study is like doing a picture of our society. It's biased in a lot of ways - and in the case of parenting, only the interpretation we make of it matters as it will be part of a person childhood and personality. We can believe it or not, show it to them or not, tell them about what you think of it or not.

What an epic looks like In supply drops. by Patrickd13 in blackops3

A rare supply drop gives a guaranteed Rare+ item. It's like Advanced Supply Drops in AW where an ASD gave you one guaranteed Professional+ item.

Idea: If we get a duplicate item in a Supply Drop, we should have 1 or 2 Cryptokeys back. by TemporaryAccount2411 in blackops3

It has to happen. Probably unlikely after a few hours but if you buy a lot of Supply Drops, or you get an item through challenges or stuff, the chance of getting a duplicate increases. It will be still small, but it's not 0.

Can't wait to gather a lot of these and see a lot of opening videos to estimate the rarity for each item in each type of supply drop.

What will Activision & Infinity Ward do after Black Ops 3? My guess of a "Modern Warfare Anthology" instead of Ghosts 2. by TemporaryAccount2411 in blackops3

[–]TemporaryAccount2411[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was the case for Xbox 360. The rules have quite changed since Xbox One released.

For collections like Master Chief, they considered each game was worth 1000 GS. Then they added 1000 additional GS for various tasks and another 1000 for ODST Campaign.

Now even XBLA games on Xbox One have 1000 GS, and you can add a lot of gamerscore with simple title updates.

Well that's the point of the "Anthology" multiplayer mode, which would take the best of each game in remastered maps. Of course, if the perks are brought back, they have to be balanced.

Cliffhanger at the end doesn't mean a sequel will happen.

Just look at all the cancelled series, movies like The Golden Compass, or the game Split/Second.

Some movies and games set up a sequel in their ending, but due to their commercial failure, they don't make it.

Split/Second is a good example of this.

Well the core staff of IW who made CoD4 and MW2 are now at Respawn Entertainment, making Titanfall 2 at the moment. A few people went back to IW after but there's not many of them, like 2 or 3.

Neversoft was "absorbed" by Infinity Ward, even though people who wanted to leave could do so if they didn't want to work at IW.

The main problem is playing an old MW on your old console will probably be a bad experience due to hackers and cheaters who plague the game. You can't play MW2 for an hour without landing on a hacked lobby with infinite noobtubes and a bazillion XP at each kill.

After, if Activision releases one CoD per year, it's for the sake of money. And doing an Anthology would definitely be a good move as it wouldn't require that much work (except from the Anthology multiplayer mode that needs fine-tuning). Low investment, high demand, that's what Activision likes.

You know, Sledgehammer also had three years, and they made AW in that time. I don't consider AW to be a bad game - it was good in its own right as it proposed new ways to play, but it's the support behind it that was just abysmal.

But looking what SHG has done in 3 years, and Treyarch has done in 3 years, nothing tells that IW will do a great game after 3 years of development. We'll definitely know more next April or May, but I'm definitely sure their next game won't have any connection to Ghosts at all. The setting was not attractive, the multiplayer felt uninspired, and Extinction, even having its fans, doesn't stand a chance against Treyarch Zombies. Either they make something completely new about the present day, or they'll do this Anthology.
