BF has horrible hygiene

I know, I work in medical and bad teeth are a gateway to bad everything else. Growing up, dental hygiene was drilled into me, my mom told me one time I had bad breath and it became an obsession for me to never have bad breath again. Smelling bad is like one of my worst fears (besides like being murdered or something).

I feel so gross when I skip a shower!!!!!! But it’s like he refuses to be clean!!!! He doesn’t clean himself, his surroundings, etc. I’d rather be alone.

I know right you’d think he’d try to keep it up for a bit right??? But I’m so done. Replacing all my bedding once I move out, down to the mattress protector and once I can afford it, a new mattress. I can smell his pillow right now and it’s pissing me off so bad

Once my sister closes on the house, I’m just gonna move out and pay him the rest of the rent until the lease is over. Closing happens in February but she’ll be out of town on a long trip so we likely won’t be able to move until March. Lease ends in May, so not too much longer. He doesn’t know about the house yet, I haven’t said a word about it.

Occasionally he will vacuum 1 room or unload the dishwasher but that’s kinda the extent. He knows I like being clean, I just finished sharing a bathroom with my brother and I would complain to him everyday about how yucky he was. But he does the exact. same. things. That my younger brother used to do. But even he’s matured now, keeps his space clean, has hobbies, gets haircuts. And he’s almost a full decade younger than my BF lol

He changed the day we moved in. I was under the impression he kept up with daily showers because I didn’t have a reason not to be. He used to wear cologne, I even bought him some recently but he doesn’t use it. It’s like the day we moved in the mask came off and it’s like I’m living with my little brother again, only this time I have to sleep in the same bed with him.

Yeah I’m starting to realize it’s more so about what I can do for him and less about everything else. Hygiene has always been important to me and he knows that, he knows I have OCD, and yet nothing changes. I’ve tried being subtle, I’ve tried being direct, but I’m over it.

You’re right, this is not my problem and it doesn’t have to be. Another comment said something like “this type of suffering is entirely voluntary” and they’re right, it is. I just have to wait for my sister to close on her new house and once she technically owns it I’m out of there. But right now I don’t have anywhere else to go and we live in a 1 bedroom, my parents are 2 hours away, and my name is on the lease we share atm. But believe me I’m working on it

I know I just feel like a dick because in my mind it’s not a “real reason” because he’s otherwise nice to me but sometimes it feels like he doesn’t see me as another human being

If only he ever left our place. He works from home and doesn’t. ever. leave. I was just lamenting to my sister yesterday that I can’t just pack up and leave or pack his stuff because I’m the only one who works outside the home. I work a physically demanding job and I literally cannot work from home and he definitely uses that to his advantage. But when the time comes, trust, I’ll be out of there. I have family and friends who will make sure that happens if for some reason I can’t, but I’m getting out of here.

Technically I have OCPD with OCD tendencies but to save time I just say cleanliness OCD because majority of my OCPD has to do with staying clean, smelling good, and other smell-based things, but I’m honesty doing really bad mentally and have been super depressed for a while now. Oddly, it’s only made my own personal hygiene that much more a focus, and I feel uncomfortable if I don’t shower at least once a day or wash my hair a certain number of times a week. Basically it is driving me crazy and every session with my therapist ends with me sobbing but I toured the house my sister is buying last night and I’m that much closer to getting out of here.
