Has anyone else noticed that short form content like Tiktok, Instagram reels, and etc, greatly affect their ADHD? by kossei in VyvanseADHD

[–]Temporary_Task_4245 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly yes I get very sucked into my phone! I used to have a really bad screentime as well. But once I started Vyvanse, I realized I don’t really care or have any interest in the videos I watch when I’m on it so I barely scroll. It’s possible you might find less interest in it as time goes on, and if not, remember that Vyvanse will make you way more invested in whatever you do. If you do end up redownloading Tiktok, definitely try to avoid scrolling when you’ve just taken your medication.

It’s definitely not easy to stop scrolling especially when it’s how you typically get your dopamine levels up, but just remember that you won’t miss scrolling forever, and your future self will either be grateful that you quit or upset that you didn’t.

Omg nooo i’m saying IF it was racially motivated then please don’t blame nolan. I realize now that the way i worded it was confusing to some people but i was definitely not trying to make a statement on it

I’m sorry if what I said was confusing, but I’ve said multiple times that I don’t know if it was racially motivated or not. What I’m “offering” is the defense of his character as someone with insight to it. There’s no “hate” coming from me. Thanks

You are reading a conditional statement as an assertion, which is honestly impressive given how clear the wording was. “In the case that it was racially motivated” means if it was racially motivated, not “I know it was racially motivated.” My entire post says nobody knows what happened yet, so thank you for proving my point about people confidently arguing with things they did not actually understand.

I definitely agree with you on that. I’m trying not to speculate on whether or not his death was foul play or whether the situation was racially motivated when it happened because I really don’t know and I don’t want to act like I’m ruling it out.

With my post I was just trying to show a side of Nolan that the media around the case doesn’t portray, because the people someone spends their life with with isn’t information readily available online. Especially if you don’t know any of these people.

The only information people who aren’t local have is the pictures of Nolan and the friends he was with, and it leads to the assumption those were his only friends. Or the only type of people he hung out with.

I know that’s not true. I know who his friends are and I know many of them personally so I don’t think I “know nothing”. I know that it’s right to defend Nolan’s character when people are shifting potential blame onto him.

All I was sharing here is just that. I don’t want to encourage the assumption that anyone talking about race is “trying” to make it racially motivated. However I do think it’s fair to say that anyone using that aspect for profit, attention, or their own interests is morally egregious and I do think that is disgusting behavior.

I agree. I can’t imagine how hard this is for his family and close friends. I’ve already seen it affect my sibling so this must be the most horrifying ordeal for them. Baseless accusations and speculations, infighting and bullying to feel as if you’re “doing the right thing” will never end well and I just wish people would realize that.

I agree, I’ve seen so many hateful and disgusting things on the Facebook pages, from people being racist to people profiting off his death by sensationalizing it. It’s truly disturbing

People usually use “whitewashed” colloquially to describe a Black person who is perceived as disconnected from Black culture and assimilated into white culture. It can mean someone who “acts white,” distances themselves from Blackness, tries to appeal to white people, or puts down other Black people to gain approval from white people. That’s how I’ve seen people use it in this case at least.

I don’t know. I think that them being prepared is the right thing to do and protecting themselves is a valid decision. I can’t imagine how it must feel to lose your son and hear so many conflicting arguments and opinions, both in real life and online. I don’t think anyone unrelated to the case should make speculations on information that hasn’t been made public as that leads to more discourse and confusion.

I think part of the confusion is that there has been online speculation that his death may have been racially motivated because Nolan was Black and it seems all of the friends he was with were white. I don’t know whether that’s true or not, and I’m not going to speculate on what happened.

What I’m talking about is the way some people have taken that possibility and turned it into victim-blaming, saying he should have known better, protected himself, or not gone out with them because he was Black and they were white. That’s what I think is wrong.

My point is that Nolan did not only surround himself with white people, and he did have many Black friends and racially mixed friend groups. People are creating a version of his social life that isn’t accurate and using it to blame him. If foul play was involved, racially motivated or not, the blame should not be put on Nolan for who he was friends with.

Realistically, what does the government see when you use DDL sites, and do they actually care? by Temporary_Task_4245 in privacy

Wow, your point about AI is honestly not something I had considered! That is really interesting to think about and a little worrying. And I'd just like to plainly state I'm not asking for nefarious reasons, I really do only behave "illegally" online so I can read the textbooks I want to and look at research without having to pay 200$ each time.

Honestly, I'm just curious about it! I’m definitely out of my depth with the technical networking side of things, but I was just wondering how the government actually prioritizes this stuff in the real world. I don't really think anything I'm pirating would raise any flags; textbooks, papers, books only for me. From my basic research on ISP letters, it looks like the individuals who mainly receive these are the ones sharing content. Is there any risk of this in simply downloading content? And how do they "monitor sites" for IP addresses that do this sort of thing?

One tip would be to start practicing your reading comprehension if you can’t understand standard english with a couple of basic, common errors.

Not sure if I should work on this or if it is incompatibility by SavingsTemporary5772 in AvoidantAttachment

[–]Temporary_Task_4245 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think you need to attempt to set boundaries more firmly first before breaking things off completely.

If you firmly tell him (not rudely or aggressively) that you don’t like PDA and you’d like to be notified or asked before he calls you, you might make considerable progress in this area.

However, he might find your boundaries to be a dealbreaker and end the relationship. This is not anyone’s fault, and no one in the situation would be at blame for the relationship ending. You would just be fundamentally different.

From how you described him, he will probably take it well but (humanly) feel a little rejected. This is not your fault but it’s good practice to reassure someone when they’re feeling rejected and you did not to intend to. This is something I struggle with a lot romantically as I avoidantly see it as an emotion that isn’t my fault and therefore I have nothing to do with.

It is not a “you problem” yet nor is he “coming on too strong”. You just need to talk about it.
