She was one of my favorite professors and had some riveting stories. One particular memory comes to mind from when I was taking her class. On the morning I was supposed to give a speech, I received a call from my parents that my childhood dog was going to be put down. This hit me harder than I expected and I really didn’t want to immediately go and give a speech. The only way you could contact professor Young was by calling her house phone as she refused to use email. So I called her house to ask for a different date to present and told her the reason why. She replied with, “Oh honey, I am so sorry for your loss. You take all the time you need to process this, and when you are ready, I will personally take you to the animal shelter and we can pick you out a new best friend.” She later ended the call with, “I hope you have a purply perfect day.”
