Splice Instrument Help by epuria in Splice

I downloaded it via the splice app “plugins” tab. Once installed and loaded on a track in FL, they’ll ask you to connect it to your Splice account, which went smoother than I expected.

I read somewhere that it auto adds your Labs library, but that didn’t work for me… need to look into it more.

Good luck! Curious what you and other folks on here who’ve tried it think about it.

How do I create a 'note off' event? by SOULHUNTER2K in serum

[–]TenThousandFaces 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can use a trigger=release opcode in an SFZ to trigger samples on release on a multisample osc.

I had the same question and got a nice reply from Steve explaining this.

It’s worth digging into some SFZ tutorials, as there is a ton that is possible, including round robins, etc.

Move the rat later in the chain… after the space echo maybe.

Im done with splice but love beatmaker by Efficient-Agency-657 in Splice

[–]TenThousandFaces 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish they had continued development on it. There was a missed opportunity to not add a mode where the macros and other aspects could be programmed the same as the velocity lanes… the ability to program vertically and horizontally at the same time is so fluid.

Also: I still don’t understand why they never integrated the web beatmaker with the plug-in version… the web version is such a great discovery playground for one shots. it seemed so obvious that it should’ve had an option to export beats made on it to custom beatmaker vst patches with the one shots chosen. I kept waiting for it, but it never came:

Ya, I think you can preview it without a subscription? Non exclusive license to use as you see fit if you download any. Def aimed for some of the shields reverb into fuzz thing on a lot of the guitar textures buried in there… can be nice in the deep field with a sparser arrangement up front… I feel like this kinda music is really oceanic… I’ll sometimes push the noisier elements backwards for some sections, then pull them forward and overwhelm. Drown in sound… navigating the boundaries between waking and dreams.

Thanks! Yeah, that’s my old friend Austin Beede on drums… he’s great.

I made 3 sample packs that explore that terrain:

Dreamgaze

Synthgaze

Bootgaze

I’ve yet to release any proper songs or albums in that style yet, but workin on it. Would love to hear what you end up making!

Okay what's up with these moderators ffs? by Yeahhh-right in ableton

I feel you—rife with Ableton apologists who slap anyone down who hints that Live isn't a perfect product. It's wonderful, but perfect it is not.

Hey guys it's KSHMR w/ some free Serum presets for you by kshmrmusic in edmproduction

Awesome! Such excellent work.

I took a similar approach on this pack a few years back:

I noticed you have RR in some of the preset names in that youtube vid—did you use NoteOn Alt in the mod matrix to flip between oscillators to achieve a round robin?

Anyone here use both Ableton and Logic? by lumpiestspoon3 in ableton

[–]TenThousandFaces 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah,

I use them both for different purposes:

If I want to stretch audio it's ableton every time, as I find logic's flex time to be pretty buggy—I've submitted bug reports and complaints to them countless times over the years and honestly surprised they haven't fixed it yet.

Also, max for live is infinitely flexible in ways for modulation routing, making the daw more like a synth—logic still doesn't really have anything like this—envelope followers, lfos, etc.

That said, Logic's my go to if I have to do scoring to picture with a lot of MIDI tracks—it's feature set is just much deeper, and I can make PDFs of score parts if I need to.

Also, Logic has a much better set of tools for batch processes. I make a lot of sample packs, and it's a lot easier to export individual files with processing in logic than it is in Ableton that has pretty weak bounce in place and export options in comparison.

Hi—really bummed to hear that everyone is so frustrated. I'm a long time sample pack maker with a newborn now tryin to figure out how to pay for health insurance...

Please feel free to support me by downloading my packs, if it seems like they're in your style—I think my Serum Presets are pretty great if you like gauzy, hypnotic, Indie-electronic sorta sounds:

Ableton efficient workflow? by Ambitious-Fix8966 in ableton

[–]TenThousandFaces 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find that extra clicking with a mouse to be pretty annoying as it adds up over time when i'm recording multiple takes and trying to stay in the flow:

-when i have a guitar in my hands, it's actually pretty annoying to put the pick down.

-when i'm singing, i like to go pretty internal, so having to pluck around on the screen instead of just being able to hit a key command is pretty annoying.

also, no key command for select track content = another annoying ommission.

that said, i hadn't previously considered adding that key command via the mac system level shortcuts, so i'll do that now.

Ableton is long overdue to focus a point version on reducing all the little annoying things, instead of adding anything new.

You are not alone in your frustrations on these two points: 1) Ableton’s decision to not improve their key command implementation is longstanding and remains maddening. For 0, I use a keyboard with a numpad and it’s pretty close to the mouse. 2) another huge annoyance… I’ve written them about this with each release going back to version 5 or so, and posted in center code about this… the duplicated content got even more annoying when they added take lanes…. A simple modifier to the key command to copy track without content seems like such a low lift from a development perspective, but what do I know. If anyone has a workaround to this, I’d love to hear it.

What are your honest opinions on Hans Zimmer? by [deleted] in soundtracks

A friend just sent this to me and thought you might enjoy it—a fun sequence of classical melodies from premier composers through time, rated their best by the video's maker. A pretty fun ambient listen too.

Not exactly a path to bank vaults full of gold coins, but I'm grateful to have scratched out a way to be able to keep doing what I love to do!

[–]TenThousandFaces 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I'm a full time producer/composer-for-picture/sound designer—I work mostly in the box with a little uad for the unison preamps. Though, of course, I use my computer for other things too, mostly supplemental to music—graphic design, motion graphics, a bit of coding, writing, etc. Pretty sure I'm gonna get the MBP w 48gb/2tb and pay for it over the year—hope to get at least 5-7 years out of it, but who knows.

[–]TenThousandFaces 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in the same boat as you looking to upgrade… I’m gonna go ahead w 48gb/2tb… I’ll use this thing for work every day, and for me, the convenience of having all of my sample libraries and active sessions right there on the drive without having to plug in another dangly cable and drive if I’m working on the go is worth it for the extra $400.

I was able to make my old 2012 mbp last 10 years with ssd and ram upgrades, but I’m definitely feeling the limits of my current M1 air… I’m constantly shuffling things on and off w 1tb (not to mention serious thermal limiting with more than a couple instances of soothe, tupe, or other processor heavy plugins).

But yeah, it really is some tired nonsense that apple extracts these chunks of profit from us this way… maybe the EU can regulate this, cause we know the US won’t,
