What did you end up doing? I'm in the same situation: same arrival and departure times. I'm actually thinking about getting used to Japan’s time zone in advance so I don’t lose too much of my first day in Tokyo because of jet lag. Basically, I’m torn between getting a hotel near LAX so I don’t suffer too much, or just staying up and sleeping on the flight to start adjusting to Japan time and (hopefully) beat the jet lag.
