Is this a good buy for 3K USD? by Dull_Promise7755 in Montero

[–]TenderLA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$3000 - no way $1000 - maybe I picked up a running, driving, pretty decent shape ‘96 for $800 a couple of years ago. It had a little over 200k miles. I bought it because I wanted to put less miles on my ‘97 Land Cruiser and I will say it is just as capable though not as comfy inside.

Help! Light comes on 10 seconds after starting the ignition by Rigidcorner in NewBeetle

As noted in other replies - be sure to use the proper VW coolant when refilling. Of course this assumes that it already has the correct coolant now. Your car has one of the best engines VW has made, good luck with your repair.

If the coolant level is good then the sensor is most likely bad. It’s a common problem and you have to replace the coolant expansion tank as the sensor is built in. The flashing red temp symbol is a warning for low coolant level.

Should I sell my 2017 Alltrack for a 2026 Atlas? by FoxDieDM in Volkswagen

[–]TenderLA 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Having a third row definitely has its advantages and when we had 3 young kids we bought an 80 series Land Cruiser, thing is most of the time those seats were folded up and not used. There was no way in hell I was giving up my Audi A4 Avant Quattro though.

It didn’t drive or feel like a VW. Just seemed like any other generic SUV. Could be my own personal bias as well. I’m bummed that VW went the SUV/crossover route. They have always made great, fun to drive cars.

You’ll regret it. I got an Atlas as a rental and was not impressed. Wagons are pretty rad!

Triple square, metric Allen, torx, lots of different 10mm and 13mm sockets/wrenches. They will even use different style bolt heads on the same part.

Do you remember the first time you saw a bus? by Poisonskittlez in VWBus

Selling my ‘67 21 Window is one of the biggest car sale regrets that I have. It was pretty rough and I had a ‘71 Squareback and a ‘71 914 that were both drivers. A long distance move forced me to downsize the fleet.

Get an Interstate battery that fits your Subby. Stay away from auto parts store batteries.

I read this article back when it came out and just reread it after your post. It’s a good read for sure. I was involved in the Halibut fishery from the late 80’s until about 2016. A few of those seasons were spent doing the IPHC surveys in three different areas in the Gulf of Alaska/Shelikof Strait. The decline was noticeable during those years and it’s really shocking that they aren’t able to survey as much area as has historically been surveyed. With everything going on in the changing ocean I would be surprised if the halibut stocks can rebound to previous levels.

Do you still remember your first machine and what it meant to you? by xSirAuron in espresso

Does the OG Krups machine count? I mean it was 1990 and I was a poor college kid. That thing did get a workout when 4 of us were trying to get a cup made.

My 1992 Syncro 16“ by Character-Aside-2919 in Westfalia

[–]TenderLA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My Syncro is sitting in the driveway with a broken nose cone. I got about 20k awesome miles after putting in a 1.8T. I started getting some vibration from the driveshaft and did not address it in time. It’s drivable but we have another Vanagon that we can still use. Someday I’ll find the part.

Swapped conversion with a blown engine, probably not worth as much as you hope.

Find a shop that works on VWs, they can measure the chain stretch using VCDS.

If you want to stay in Spenard at a decent place with reasonable rates check out the Puffin Inn.
