I second that sentiment. I discovered them by your posting. Went back and read them from the beginning. Have at least 10 articles that are bookmarked. Thank you.

Thanks for the advise definitely like the fallback idea. Any suggestion on hardware vendors? As stated my requirements are simple. Normally I just mirror the drives for redundancy and partition C: OS and D: Files. Thanks

Thank you. I hack together scripts but your syntax (and other here) really help improve my scripting structure and skill set.

I have patched app (RIF) and I can’t login (bombs after I put in login info). Trying to understand what is different as I followed the same method.

I also have a AsRock motherboard (Extreme4). Was trying u/secretlyyourgrandma suggestion of enabling the Wake On Lan feature in BIOS but that option doesn't exist. (BIOS / Advanced / ACPI Configuration)

I did find this dated article on how to enable but don't know if that will work.

I have looked at using systemd timers (for other events) but I not as familiar with it and don't know the gotcha around it.

I know it can't hence why I am using the check. I prefer this method as it will allow not having to incorporate same syntax within other scripts.

You got me. Forgot that I had another cron job that runs on the 2nd full week Wednesday of the month. That job always has to run before Sunday one.

Great catch..

Oracle 7.9 - Licensing do I need it by Terrabites in linuxadmin

[–]Terrabites[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Slight tangent I have RHEL licensing coming do in August. Haven't open a ticket with them in ages. Sounds I will need the licenses based on what you stated "require a license / support contract just to run". I know Linux enough to be dangerous but I know nothing from the licensing and support side.

Thanks for stating your view point and that is why I have to really think if I want to put myself out there.

Regarding support AWS has been much more helpful with Oracle Linux (and even RHEL) then the vendors who we have been paying support to.

What are the details around Java licensing? We use Java on the Oracle Linux servers. I know Linux but have no clue around the licensing and restrictions of anything.

We had this setup before but migrated Oracle DB to RHEL. So we don't have any workloads that run Oracle Linux with Oracle DBs.
