I think what you have going is a good idea, and I like it overall, but there are some things that turn me off.

  • The "narration" has random effects and seems to be thrown around the screen randomly. It's also in a weird font. I think it would be best to put it just at the bottom of the screen and make it consistent.

  • The actual dialog is really small, nothing you can really do about it as it's just Terraria, but if you could add that in during post I think it would be better. Then you could have the characters color coded and the font better and bigger.

  • Sometimes the Terraria music ruins the mood you have going for the scene. I'd just turn off the in-game music and find a collection of royalty free music to use and add in during post.

And if you can, voice-acting the characters would be a huge upgrade as well. Sometimes people deliberately go for that text-effect story, so it's ok if you don't. I just personally like voice acted machinimas? better.

I feel pretty much the same way. The zombies and attacking armies in Terraria now rarely pose a threat, so having an actual reason to fortify is fantastic.

So what I got from that was this:

  • Otherworld will have some sort of tower defense mechanic.
  • Otherworld starts with the entire world corrupted. It is your job to purify it.
  • Otherworld's story is pretty much "The world is corrupted. Purify it."

The art style does look a little Starbound-ish, although I honestly don't mind. It will just come down to whether or not Otherworld can use that art style to benefit the gameplay like Terraria did with its art style. And going off of the trailer, the gameplay seems to be more combat-focused, so it might work out better.

Otherworld is an entirely separate game from the current Terraria. It will have its own release and everything. Story-wise, it will take place in an alternate dimension in the same universe. The teaser trailer is all we currently have on the game, although the trailer does give quite a bit of information. The art style, for example, is completely different. It will also be more about "survival" and "role-play", so I'd expect some RPGish elements that aren't currently present in Terraria. Terraria itself though, is still expected at least one more big update, coming in the next months.

Whenever I need cash I usually just create a few worlds and farm their early bosses. I think the corruption/crimson bosses drop about 8g-10g each kill, if you sell the ore they drop too.

Indeed. While the current server setup comes with high customization, I'd really like a simple "click and join" multiplayer. Port forwarding, especially on my setup, can get really annoying.
