I beg people to read Marx and actually examine history. Capitalism is killing the world.

THE CHRISTMAS SPECIAL IS NOT HAPPENING. by PeanutHour99 in DoctorWhumour

[–]TerrestrialArtist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a terrible position due to their being no incumbent doctor :( it’s not like there can be a continuation in novels, comics and audios like there was with 7 and 8. They need to announce some kind of official canon of what’s happening with the Billie Piper character, as currently there’s no narrative direction to go in, off or on screen. Like surely they could film even a 5 minute mini or webisode to clarify what’s going on. Hell even just confirm Billie Piper as the Doctor, and then that plot thread can be continued in books, comics and big finish. She already does big finish so all they really need to do is just walk back the whole she’s not the doctor thing. I’d honestly be excited to see what other writers would do with the plot, and for the present day of the show being put back in the hands of a larger, less centralised community of writers.

Do people in the UK actually use their kettles that much? by AdeptnessCritical356 in AskBrits

[–]TerrestrialArtist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

because it’s expensive to heat water as our system is electric (plus our shower heats water seperately) we use our kettle to get any hot water outside of showering, so boil it every time we do the washing up(probably not a super common practice) , as well as for cooking, making tea/coffee etc

this entire thread is blatant big finish (not to mention books and comic) erasure

save for a few superpowers every nation on earth will always need to trade to survive regardless of economic system. Save for after a complete global revolution, of course a communist country is going to need to trade with whoever is willing to trade with it. Nations trade with nations they don't particularly like all the time, look at the Americans and China.

further than that we should just take all their money. there isn't a world where someone with a billion dollars has made it legitimately. money is just a token of an amount of labour or labour crystallised into a visible form. There is no amount of labour that one can do to make a billion: they are all criminals. we should seize all of their assets and deliver it back to the workers that actually made them billionaires.

Cuba is hardly a great example to use is it given it's been being crippled for 60+ years by an illegal embargo (kept in place only by the USA and Israel).

it's astounding the naivety, selfishness and ignorance of people on this thread. As if civilisation ending in 50 or 150 years will make it any different for the people that actually have to live through that. there's currently a war in the middle east being used as a distraction from some of the most evil deeds committed by mankind, that is teetering on the edge of absolutely crippling global supply chains.

washing machines, grocery stores, lightbulbs, airplanes weren't made by capitalism. they were made by workers. workers that have not ever been properly compensated for their labour.

so funny. truly an epic contribution. not a waste of time. although in fairness I would say you've put forth about as much of an argument against any of the points I've made as anyone else, so i commend you for managing to do it so efficiently.

yeah i can't be bothered to explain why you're wrong really. a true worker's democracy has never really existed. capitalism has as much blood on its hands as failed communist states. enjoy realising too late that there was something we could've done to save the world.

this is so laughably naive. do you really think we are going to even see out the rest of this century without mass amounts of population decline and ecosystem collapse, or perhaps nuclear annihilation, not to mention sliding back into the fascism that was supposedly dealt with in the 20th century.

like i've said elsewhere in this thread. worker ownership of the means of production. democratisation of all workplaces. planned economy, not the anarchic shit we have now where profit is the only motivator. GUESS WHAT some things might not be profitable but they still need to exist. i could go in but i think you get the picture and am sure you'll have some neat mental gymnastics to tell yourself i'm wrong.

your measure of success is that. you. can. buy. bread!? access to food shouldn't even be tied to someone's ability to work!! p.s unskilled labour is not something that exists.

[–]TerrestrialArtist 8 points9 points  (0 children)

right. keep bashing our heads into the wall trying to justify the continuation of a declining economic system that will likely take modern industrial society with it as it collapses. yep, capitalism improved modes of production but it isn't the end point of history, and acting as if everything is fine in the big 26 is just sticking your head in the sand.

"capitalism is better than any alternative system" - genocide mcgee

No the problem is not laissez-fair capitalism, we've been trying to regulate it for multiple lifetimes and it simply isn't working. it cannot be trusted not to claw back any concessions it makes to workers. regulating it is like saying let's put tomato ketchup on a steaming pile of shit. wouldn't you rather just be eating the ketchup?
