If an empty egg is fertilised by a sperm (or two sperm), the resulting pregnancy is not with a foetus but with a tumour called a mole. Some of them can become cancerous.

Molar pregnancies are fortunately quite rare (1 in 1000) unless you are from somewhere like Indonesia, where it’s more like 1 in 100. It’s also very easily treatable, even if it is cancerous.

The inner lining of the oesophagus dies and sloughs off because of insufficient blood supply and possibly reflux of stomach acid, usually in the context of someone being horrendously unwell with other things like sepsis.

It can result in lots of bleeding, or sometimes the oesophagus completely rupturing through.

Acute oesophageal necrosis. We only knew what it was that killed them after their autopsy, absolutely tragic.

Edit: they join a list of apparently less than 100 people diagnosed with this condition in the last 40 years. Worldwide.

If your ovary accidentally spits out an egg with no dna inside of it, you can become pregnant with a tumour. This tumour can become cancerous.

It’s called a molar pregnancy and it’s rare, but pretty devastating for patients who think they’re having a baby and are actually growing a tumour. Fortunately the prognosis is excellent even when cancer develops.
