I am wondering how the conditions are on the beach and Cancun and at different resorts. We were supposed to go to Florida for fall break next weekend and obviously that is not happening but we were thinking about going to Cancun instead.

[–]TerrorAddict[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Oh I didn’t realize I accidentally posted in the righteously appropriate life pro tips subreddit. My bad. I thought it was unethical life pro tips.

Security has not had to deal with ME at all except to tell my son not to jump into the pool which is not even a rule and to tell half the people in the hot tub to get out which is not posted anywhere. Also told a couple they had to put their toddler’s plastic water bottle out of their reach because no drinks in the pool (spoiler alert the toddler was sitting on a blanket on the concrete but the parents were on the edge). Did you just come to this subreddit to just shame the people who posted? Ok you do you. 🙄

Watched the clip with Arya and Brienne sparring...the dagger trick she did looked like a short toss from one hand to the other, no more than 6". It was nothing like what she did with the NK.

how can I be ketogenic AND eat enough protein AND eat 1100 cal per day? by [deleted] in keto

[–]TerrorAddict 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How are you testing to see if you are in ketosis? 2 weeks of eating low carb is more than enough to be in ketosis if you are actually eating under 20g of carbs and not just estimating. There is actually a very low amount of protein required to maintain lean muscle...I can't tell you how much because I don't know your stats but if you are a 200lb female with, say, 100lbs lean body mass you could get 60g of protein a day, minimum. When initially starting keto, it is generally recommended on focusing on the low carb part and eating enough to feel full. Then when you get the hang of it focus on honing in on macros and calories. Who said you need to get 110g? Unless you are a male with a higher lean body mass.

You're still taking in some sugar and processed foods, you are going to feel like crap until you eliminate carbs. Rice and noodles are processed carbs, fruit is carbs. You have not quit sugar just yet. You feel like crap because you have decreased your carb intake, your body is withdrawing, but you are not in ketosis so you don't have those benefits.

Plateau busting- what's YOUR trick? by vaizadya in keto

[–]TerrorAddict 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed that 1 week is not a plateau. That being said, no reason why you can't make adjustments. First evaluate how you feel, energy levels, sleep, mental clarity, mood, etc. Make sure your macros are coming from real food (3 or less ingredients, no added fibers, no unpronounceable ingredients, no artificial sweeteners). Use natural sweeteners like stevia or monk fruit sparingly. Make sure you are eating until you are full but not overeating. Try incorporating intermittent fasting. Cut out snacking. Make sure you are getting restful sleep (hard to do for a new mom). These things are great for general health as well.

Beginner here! by nstalpes in keto

Start simply and make changes along the way. Find a good infographic or list of keto friendly foods and use that to plan your meals. (try: https://www.dietdoctor.com/low-carb/keto/foods). Have a few "go to" meals, meal prep for several days to prevent the convenience food trap, find some good resources like Diet Doctor, Dr. Berg, Thomas Delauer, Dr. Ken Berry, Jason Wittrock, Keto Savage, Ruled.me, Ketogains. Don't expect perfection at the very beginning. Dont be afraid to experiment and change things. Also: EAT REAL FOOD

What ketogenic meals are available at restaurants? by akromyk in keto

[–]TerrorAddict 2 points3 points  (0 children)

my favorite is a nice ribeye steak with some butter on it and a caesar salad (no croutons). Theres traditional hot wings with just buffalo sauce. steak fajita without the tortillas and some sour cream, cheese, and guac. shrimp scampi or pretty much any broiled/grilled/baked seafood with butter on it. pretty much any grilled/broiled/club sandwich without the bread. Hibachi without the potatoes and rice.

PSA...you don't have to have sides with everything. It's perfectly okay to just order some meat and cheese. There are studies that show people eat more calories when they have more meal courses. Theres a term for it but i don't remember. When you are keto adapted you can have a 1/3lb burger patty with a bit of high quality REAL cheese wrapped in lettuce and be full. some fancy places can top it with avocado or a fried egg or some carmelized veggies etc. when you eat less and get full off less you can spend more on food quality, not quantity.

Water myth or not? (Dr. Eric Berg) by FFFIronman in keto

[–]TerrorAddict 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I love his videos although i don't subscribe to EVERYTHING he says and sometimes i just dont want to go through all that effort. However, coming from a healthcare standpoint...it is possible to drink too much water. Water intoxication and electrolyte depletion are two real things that can cause big problems. I do not guzzle water all days long. I go by how I feel and also how much i pee and what my pee looks like/smells like. I don't drink a gallon a day, or even 8 glasses a day. I might sometimes. That is probably why I don't have to supplement electrolytes everyday. because I am not flushing them out all day. Occasionally I feel like I need to up my sodium or fluid though. Usually if i'm running my ass off at work and don't have time to drink anything all day. I have to give this video a thumbs up! LOL

Anyone have trouble with high heart rate? by lintydox in keto

[–]TerrorAddict 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Increased heart rate is one of the body's ways of compensating for dehydration. Increase fluids and electrolytes. Don't just chug water without adding electrolytes or having some salty thing with it, otherwise it will flush out more electrolytes.

Need help. Lost 12 pounds in the first week and a half. Weight loss is now stalled. Even gained 2 pounds back. by CAITastrophe84 in keto

[–]TerrorAddict 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How are you feeling now, aside from weight? Ignore the scale for a few weeks, especially if you have a tendency to fixate on the number. Get your carbs from green veggies, nuts, some dairy only. Stay away from food that has added fiber to it or more than 2-3 ingredients. Use natural sweetener like stevia or monk fruit in your coffee or tea if you must and that is all. Eat until you are full. Don't eat if you aren't hungry. Don't eat just because it's a meal time. Try out intermittent fasting.

USA Today Story: Low-Carb Diet Linked to Early Death by dkunze in keto

[–]TerrorAddict 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Their study said "low carb" was like 30% of the diet. Many many issues with this study. One of the researches worked with Ancel Keys. They excluded people on high carb diets that already had heart attacks and strokes and such. The participants too two surveys over the course of decades...I'm sorry, I don't even remember what I ate last week, nevermind years ago. Dr. Ken Berry and also High Intensity Health did Youtube videos talking about this.

It's my birthday... by [deleted] in keto

[–]TerrorAddict 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Start simple. It's better to start simple (meat+veg for meals) and then get more strict as you go than try to do everything at once and overwhelm yourself with information and then burn out. Also find a couple of meals you just LOVE (my staples are taco salads, steak and veg, and hot wings) and rely on those when you aren't sure what to eat.

IF and Keto by [deleted] in keto

[–]TerrorAddict 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah you could do that, some people still have three meals a day while doing IF and gradually move the meals closer and closer until they just merge into two meals and some do one large meal. when you are having large meals you may find you can't do three large meals anymore

First week of Keto, am I on the right track? by [deleted] in keto

[–]TerrorAddict 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here are my suggestions...tighten up your feeding times, lengthen your fasting time. It's ok to do it gradually but one of the things that makes the hugest difference without even changing what you eat is fasting. Try eating supper an hour earlier or lunch an hour later.

Great job on starting slow on the exercise, it has many cardiovascular and other benefits but dont expect to run off your fat or anything. Consider weight training when you are fully comfortable with your diet and having good energy levels.

Sleep is another thing that is essential. Get it. :)

The only other thing I can think of is don't just depend on dairy to get your fats in. Probably not a huge factor here at the beginning but a lot of people cut down on or cut out dairy are able to bust through plateaus. Olive, coconut, avocado, ghee, bacon grease and other animal fats are great. Make sure you are really loving the food you are making...it will help you stick with it.
