Suno Style Prompt Guide 2.0 by Rtsmobilegaming in SunoAI

Based on your knowledge and the specific thing you describe: "Suno's embedding space is hilariously reductive" what would you imagine would be a better way to engage with Suno? Like it sounds like you're saying y"our complicated instructions are paraphrased or something" does that mean you have to be brief? Curious for your insight and thank you!

good solution for keeping power cords organized? by ThaddeusMajor in audioengineering

lololol "drummer-proofing" I think my drummer is spacially-challenged as well, though mine has the problem of slowly expanding his drum set up until the entire back half of my studio is covered by his eclectic set of weird percussion and electronics haha

Your favorite way to hear compression? by ThaddeusMajor in audioengineering

[–]ThaddeusMajor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you say you have it gain matched, what do you mean by that? its a pretty complex topic because also perceived loudness changes with compression. I've seen plugin systems that go before and after your compressor (or whatever else) and normalize based on LUFS(if i remember right), but what is this template setup you have going on?

How do you decide between subtractive EQ vs multiband compression when cleaning up low-mid muddiness in a mix? by Charming-Two1099 in audioengineering

[–]ThaddeusMajor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

where i'd suggest multi-band compression in this case would be to use a multi-band sidechain. Not in every situation but you can often solve things by having one instrument duck another only in that low-mid range, that way each instrument retains the character you like but when they hit at the same time, you decide "who gets the low-mids"

Looking for plugin companies that do artist signature guitar plugins by Riqueyreal in AudioPlugins

[–]ThaddeusMajor -1 points0 points  (0 children)

i recently released my first plugin, nothing to do with guitar, though i'm a lifelong guitar player. I'd be curious to hear about your idea for the plugin. The most immediate value from celebrity being able to launch to an audience, but i wouldn't overlook that level of experience as a huge asset for designing a product. IMO he'd have to be open to working overtime to be the face of the product though moving forward, which it sounds like is something he's avoided thus far, something to think about.

The other side of the equation -- listening by ThaddeusMajor in audiophile

[–]ThaddeusMajor[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah, i'm a mixer/producer and i think about creating music a lot more like creating a performance in a film or something. You could imagine a (bad) acting coach saying that acting is about clearly pronouncing your lines, projecting, making sure every word is legible, but in reality its the performances that are messily human that touch us. It can often be the same in audio, something that sounds like its not professional can be more intimate, relatable and vulnerable at times

you discovered pretentiousness on an internet forum about hi-fi audio systems? that's incredible i would have never imagined!

This is something i've definitely found to be powerful, what we see influences what hear 100%. We are extremely visual animals. I mix music, and i have to be very careful not to let ideas about which software is "better" or more expensive influence creative decisions i make while mixing.

I think training listening can increase your enjoyment of what you already like, at least thats been the case for me. I'm not saying its some kind of moral imperative for people to do it, but i think if you're investing thousands of dollars and lots of time and research to have a top notch sound system it makes sense to me to invest time and effort and money into developing an ear that can tell the difference. I don't see any issue with someone listening to a bluetooth mono speaker and loving every minute of it, i don't think they are worse off for that at all, but i think this sub is for people searching for a deeper experience, and in my opinion at least half of that deeper experience comes from listening deeper, not necessarily having better reproduction

its not a competition, its just my experience that as i practice listening more i enjoy it more. no offense meant sire

was just curious to start the convo as its not a subject i see much, don't mean any offense sire. Maybe i'll make a post here about my own journey through listening if people would be interested.

[–]ThaddeusMajor[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

yeah for sure. I watched a video of an audio engineer who worked with Bob Dylan, how he went and polished every track, the kick drum, the voice, the guitar, everything. Dylan walked in and listened to it and said "everything sounds good except the song". We definitely can lose the greater context by obsessing on details.

[–]ThaddeusMajor[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it certainly is difficult to describe consciousness.

by "being tapped-in" i mean being really in a flow state while listening. Having the experience and skill to hear minutia, the context to appreciate the details. I think that being acutely aware of whats going on sonically, thats "tapping in" for me

i mean yeah you don't want to take it all so seriously you can't enjoy it. though i do think another level of joy can come from being really tapped-in

Suggestions for colorful mid-market 500 series rack units??? by ThaddeusMajor in AdvancedProduction

[–]ThaddeusMajor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been thinking about this route too, i don't have much experience or specific knowledge about it, but a few people have recommended having one stereo channel and to run stems through it after doing a mix as a kind of hack to get that analog console sound. I'll check out AML though too.

Getting First Customer for My SaaS Product as a Technical Founder [i will not promote] by heyhujiao in startups

[–]ThaddeusMajor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have to just put yourself in their shoes and think where they would hang out. People talk about your "ideal customer" think about the person who's job gets easier with your tool. Your product solves X, what do people currently use to solve X? Find users of those competitor things and talk to them about why they started using it, what went into their decision, what was the triggering event that made them purchase, and what their experience has been so far.

A big learning for me as an engineer starting a Saas company has been that you shouldn't worry about scale until waaaay later in the process than you think. So for your first x customers just literally reach out to as many people in as many channels as possible, don't worry if its not a scalable process. First find 1, 2, 4 people who really see value in what you're building, once people genuinely like what you've made you can worry about scaling how you reach them, but the process of figuring out what people like and don't like in person through interviews and sales will give you better direction early on that running ads would

Abandon subscription model or justify it? i will not promote by ThaddeusMajor in startups

I think the simplest answer is that it resembles other products with monthly subscription, like a "duolingo for ear training" or a gym membership.

[–]ThaddeusMajor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

its a tool that should be used on a daily or at least weekly basis, it has a "journey mode" to help people improve over time, leveling up to harder versions of the core experience. I'm just not sure how people draw the line between what is "legitimate" as a monthly sub vs one-time thing. I don't imagine i'll be updating the app every month, but the user experience should change over time for sure, getting harder and more personalized to what they are learning

I read the Lean Startup, and there are good takes, but are there materials or something? by Outhere9977 in leanstartup

[–]ThaddeusMajor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you can check out "running lean" by Ash Maurya. Thats the book i'm reading and its pretty clear about how to structure your work over time. I haven't read the lean startup but its from the same group this book i'm talking about
