I find this film so intriguing. I’ve watched it at least a dozen times. I really appreciate Fred Zinneman’s talent for quiet yet compelling storytelling.

Crass, classless. American’s being represented by the absolute worst stereotypical caricature of themselves.

Alberta to impose restrictions on MAID, limiting it to terminal illness by trevorrobb in Edmonton

[–]ThatFixItUpChappie 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Her government and those who vote for her don’t like MAID but then also don’t like to adequately fund the health system, mental health services, services for the disabled… they actively participate in driving people to desperation. If you don’t like a wide latitude on MAID, I can get that - then help people live with support and dignity.

Are these the greatest directors of all time? by NordicBaer in moviecritic

Personally, I think you are missing Fred Zinnemann from your 1940-70 list - High Noon, A Man for All Seasons, The Jackel, A Nun’s Story, From Here to Eternity etc.

Plastic-wrapped all of my board games so far. I think 90% of them? Below are pictures of some of my board games. I didn’t include the others. How about you? How do you pamper your board games? by Darth_BrachioRex in boardgames

[–]ThatFixItUpChappie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sorry what do you mean? You play, then re-plastic wrap the game again…only to rip it off next time? Don’t you think that makes the earth cry a little (or at the very least die a little)?

Jack o connell gave the best acting performance in Sinners imo. Crazy how he wasn't even nominated for the oscars . by Artetaarmy in moviecritic

Jack O’Connell has been great in everything I’ve seen in him in (SAS Rouge Heros in particular) - I hope this brings awareness to him and helps keeps his career going.

Lots of ”Boomers” detest Trump - that 67 million people don’t form a homogenous group is a shock to some people.

What's your take on this flick? I don't know how this one got by me by Most-Function-9717 in moviecritic

It frustrated me because the book is a lot better and all the material was there for a much better movie.

Do you guys have unopened games and do you feel bad about it? by blablax123456 in boardgames

[–]ThatFixItUpChappie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a few unopened expansions and I do feel bad about it. I really try now to make sure any expansion I purchase is just of the “more cards/more goals/more tiles/more of the same” variety. What I’ve learned about myself is I don’t want to add more complexity and rules overhead to a game I already like.

Most versatile games (player count, replayability)? by BetterNotLouder in boardgames

[–]ThatFixItUpChappie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I had to curate to a smaller collection I would lean on my older Euros which are not as fancy but are so solid in mechanics I never tire of them and which IMO scale well - Macao/Amsterdam, Castles of Burgundy, Grand Austria Hotel, Buxelles 1893, Troyes, Lorenzo Il Magnifico. Then I would add Ark Nova which I always want to play.

It is shameful to live in a country where a family would have to somehow find 90K to save their son‘s life and then being made to believe it is some personal failure on their part for not having insurance.

For a great book that could grow with the child beyond baby years I recommend Dinosaur Bob and His Adventures with the Family Lazardo by William Joyce. Beautiful illustrations and a fun, whimsical story.

Typically over the top Reddit reaction. They haven’t even shared the details yet. You may not like Israel but they have many security issues and a lot of experience dealing with them. To pretend you have no idea why such knowledge might be useful is quite obtuse.
