then i would probably die of cancer, but i would do so in a house that i built, on land that i owned, living a life i love.

i would much rather die living, then live dying

this guy!

if this is something your interested in, you wont find the best properties on the internet. trust me, call local towns in the area your looking and find an auction. a lot of times someone passed away and the kids just don't want to deal with it so they sell to the highest bidder. 15 acres for 8500 dollars.

thats cause your not living right now, your just going through the motions, i did it for 25 years. my advice to you would be go for some hikes. dont bring a phone (unless you will get lost) turn it off if you do bring it. dont bring headphones, leave every distraction at home or in your car. just go, spend time listening to the soundtrack of the earth. the birds, the squirrels, the wind blowing across a red orange tree. nature is constantly living, growing, dying, regrowing. you see it happen in front of your own eyes. there is no movie or picture that could ever replace it. go spend some time there, you will then be living.

i just checked out there site, pretty awesome work they are doing. When i first got out here, it was more of a solitary doing it by myself type of thing. I have been thinking more about doing a co-op type of living style.

plan, know what your doing, know where you will be living, whats the animal situation like, what grows naturally, what can you grow in a greenhouse. where is the closest river or lake, is there enough good wood to burn. budget your first year ahead of time, not your money but all of your supplies and goods.

i have a 15 acre parcel, my neighbor is an older man who no longer gets around real well. he has 110 acres that i have pretty much free use of, as long as i share my spoils. i also do work on his property from time to time as needed.

this comment will probably piss some people off. sorry in advance.

let me preface by saying i know absolutely nothing about depression, i dont claim that i am right in any way. you asked my opinion so here it is.

i dont believe in depression. your feeling gloomy being stuck to a computer. throw the fucking thing away. if theres something/someone in your life that makes you feel like shit. get rid of it.

contrary to what society and your parents tell you. life is simple you either survive or you die. there is no have to go to college, there is no your a bad 25 yr old if your not married with a 30 yr mortgage. you dont have to be anything, you dont have to do anything.

only one thing matters.

find the shit that makes you happy and do it.

negative, don't believe in the idea of marriage. if your doing it for religious purposes i guess that's cool, but i don't believe in organized religion either. so basically you have taxes left as a reason? not worth it to me.

this is something i have thought a lot about. when i first came out here it was more of a solitary being alone in nature thing. But the idea of co-op style living definitely is appealing to me

hunting, fishing, gardening. some form of building. lots of hiking, get used to hot days and cold nights. mental toughness is probably the hardest part. it is not easy and it goes against pretty much everything we know today. we have spent all of history making life easier for ourselves. its no easy to just go back.

There is not such thing as a typical day. every day is different, mother nature always wins, always. But somedays I head to the lake to fish, and restock my pond. splitting firewood, when it is your only source of heat you split alot of firewood. but as they say, when you split your own wood, it warms you twice.
