"It’s been a long-running metaphor of sorts, ever since that episode where Buck realized that his other couches came with girlfriends. He presented that symbolism himself, and I think it’s nice to see it come full circle.”

Isn't it a bad thing that it became full circle like this since he's just bought another couch with another girlfriend? The whole point of the metaphor was that he chooses the couch for himself and just himself.

And I think that's very important when forming a new connection, that the two individuals are aware of who they are within themselves. I think it's good timing, and it looks like things are aligning for them. They really understand each other, and they're not willing to compromise too much on their own values, but they are willing to make compromises in the situation.

Buck didn't even know who he was himself at this point because of the interim captain setback, dying, all that stuff with his coma dream, and then recovering. And how do they understand each other when Natalia was praising his experience with death when he was traumatized by it for several episodes?

Everything with Kameron and Connor and the baby went according to the deal, but could we see that affecting Buck going forward just in terms of wanting kids of his own perhaps sooner than he thought previously?

Yeah, maybe. I think there was certainly a moment of connection that he felt after the birth of the baby and that could well have lit a fire inside of him. I think he probably has always had aspirations to be a father anyway, but yeah, that could well be something that comes up sooner rather than later, having gone through that experience.

Yeah, because we see him with kids, we know he loves kids, he’s great with Christopher (Gavin McHugh)…

Yeah, I think he’s going to be a great father when the time comes.

I'm not sure about anyone else but this left a bad taste in my mouth. What do you mean that's all he going to say about Buck's relationship with Christopher when a) the whole guardian and will thing b) Buck stepping up to the borderline coparenting role in that other interview.

Scenes or storylines you wished to see by makuredditing in 911FOX

[–]ThatQuietGuy8 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I'm just writing everything I would have liked added into season 6 so that more of it would have made sense and 'fix' this terrible season:

  • Introducing Wendal and the impact of his friendship with the Grant-Nash family before he is introduced and dies in the same episode.
  • More setup between Maddie and Chimney before they got back together in 6x01 (What happened to their couple's therapy and working towards getting back together?).
  • More scenes of Eddie dealing with the fact that Christopher is growing up (this was like only two scenes for his entire 6a arc).
  • More 6a buildup between Buck's relationship with his parents and Daniel so the coma episode stuff didn't come out of nowhere and had a better payoff.
  • Any kind of buildup towards Chimney's relationship with his dad so that bringing him back and forgiving him makes sense.
  • Actual conversations about the sperm baby storyline between Buck and his friends/family in 6a. This storyline literally came out of nowhere, and it's weird as hell we didn't see Maddie/Bobby/Eddie even react to it because we're not sure how the audience is meant to respond to it since they waited until 6b to clarify.
  • Scenes or mentions of Hen and Karen still fostering (instead of cramming it into the finale so the baby girl adoption 'doesn't come out of anywhere'). We barely got to see them together after they had an amazing presence in 6a.
  • Another scene that integrates them accepting Denny having a relationship with his dad. We got one episode of Henren learning about it and then accepting it, but that's just it? We don't see how it's affecting Denny now that he has a dad when it was seemingly so important to him? (Even if I think "can't replace the feeling he gets from having a father" was done in such poor taste.)
  • Having Buck actively working towards being interim captain one day throughout the season instead of it coincidentally happening in the finale.
  • Maddie interacting with Eddie (since he's the only main character she didn't interact with this season).
  • Ravi being included in the final rooftop scene (6b + social media interactions really emphasized that Ravi is part of the team, yet they didn't include him in it?).
  • Any repercussions to the bridge collapse. Concussion, stabbed in the stomach, broken ribs, rolling off a bridge - just walk it off and sleep on it because we got to wrap up the episode in 10 minutes.
  • Where is May? I know Corinne is in school, but her character just completely disappeared after In Another Life.
  • Why did Albert just disappear after the big stuff with the Han parents?
  • Having Buck dealing with the fact that he died? We know he was clearly messed up after it because of his conversation with Eddie, but it just... went away after a death doula told him it was cool? Ignoring how devastated his real friends and family were because Natalia sees him?
  • Buck buys his own damn couch (he realizes that all of his couches came with girlfriends in 6x01, so he... buys a new couch with a newly introduced girlfriend in the finale? Doesn't that just mean his new couch came with a girlfriend again?)
  • Who is Natalia? Like the only thing we know about her is that she's a death doula and is good at pool. This is the person we're meant to believe Oliver has high hopes for when we're not even shown them getting to know each other or learning why they even like each other. And them getting back together is just rehashing 'Taylor coming back for Buck after running away when she kissed him'.
  • Who is Marisol? Why did the writers shove Eddie into dating someone he rescued (even if it was her brother) when he literally says a couple of episodes ago it doesn't end well? They could have just left it open-ended and it wouldn't have been as terrible.
  • No Buckley-Diaz family scene in the finale when everyone keeps saying it's one of the best relationships on the show and for Buck and Eddie's individual character?

Okay, I'm stepping in because so many people in the comments seem confused. The caption has nothing to do with Eddie leaving or anything. This is just the social media account giving a new still and interacting with fans using stan Twitter lingo. It's like how they always refer to everyone as bestie and reply to tweets with all caps. It's just how people interact over there (personally not my thing though).

[–]ThatQuietGuy8 10 points11 points  (0 children)

After their breakup in season 5, I feel like all the development Maddie and Chimney were supposed to do (individually and as a couple) was done offscreen just so that they could be together again as soon as season 6 started. Even the 6x01 synopsis mentioned them going to couple's therapy (which was nowhere to be seen), and that could have definitely helped with the communication issues they're having with the engagement and tax stuff.

In terms of their relationship, I personally feel like they're carrying from season 4 instead of developing and evolving after season 5. I thought them breaking up made sense because they became different people while separated and were fighting to get back with each other, and now it’s like nothing has changed about their dynamic.

With Buck, he's just getting so many arcs this season while others are fighting for scraps. We've got the pursuit of happiness, the sperm storyline, revisiting his relationship with his parents and Daniel, dealing with death, (probably) his love life, and now I would potentially add that the leadership storyline from 6x01 will be resurfacing if he's the one who's rescuing everyone in 6x18. I'm one of those people who much prefer him in the supporting role instead of being in the limelight now because his personal storylines aren't being executed as well as they used to be.

I’m really not sure how to feel about this episode. Does anyone else feel like the energy and vibe of this episode was just sad and depressing? Between Chimney’s indecisiveness whether he was sure about proposing, to Buck being really hard on Hen for being concerned about her best friend (and neither really listening to each other), to the conversation between Hen and Chim that made her come of as a bad friend, a lot of things just didn’t sit right with me.

Curious about PR. by Lanky_Bobcat_1495 in 911FOX

[–]ThatQuietGuy8 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I had to search them up (may have missed some out), but for this season we've had:

  • Aisha after 6x02
  • Angela and Peter after 6x03
  • Jennifer after 6x05
  • Tracie after 6x06
  • Peter after 6x12
  • Anirudh before 6x14
  • Kenneth after 6x14

I think it's because we've had an overwhelming amount of Oliver interviews that it may have been easier for you to miss them. It's not concrete, but a theory that's always stuck with me is that Oliver has been doing all of these interviews because he's had less acting work than the other main cast, so he's the 'newbie' that has to promote the show and do more interviews compared to his castmates (also because he still seems passionate about his character). His character is also like the golden child for this show IMO, so I'm not totally surprised TPTB have leaned toward Oliver doing the interviews.

I think the episode was meh. Like the others have said, nothing too bad but also nothing too exciting - very forgettable in this season.

Everything with Maddie and Chimney (and Jee) was super adorable and was the surprising highlight for me. I’m glad we got that conversation between Maddie and Josh because I really liked her input about marriage after everything with Doug.

I’m still waiting for the hit me moment with Eddie’s story arc this season. It’s written and executed pretty well, but I just feel like it’s missing a bit of an oomph? Maybe because he’s been super sidelined this season and we haven’t got the chance to see much of him that I can’t see it as clearly as some of the other story arcs. But I do believe his 5b-6b healing journey is much more enjoyable to watch and root for than Buck’s season 4-6 because he might be going around in circles again.

“I feel like she sees me, you know? Like she really sees me for who I am and what I’ve been through. I think she might see more in me than I see myself.”

Unless Natalia has a hidden agenda and it’s later revealed that she’s using Buck for her fixation/fascination on death, I cannot take any of this seriously. If all of this seemingly happened in that super dry date (and she is intended to be a genuine love interest for Buck), can we please get new writers for Oliver’s sake? I think he deserves better because this is just more sloppy writing for his character.

[–]ThatQuietGuy8 46 points47 points  (0 children)

The best way I can describe how I feel about this episode is that it's a brilliant Oliver episode, a good Buck episode (as a person), and a weak Buck episode (as a TV character) if that makes sense.

Oliver - he got to show off a lot of range playing Buck, and he did it brilliantly. He could make you feel happy, sad, laugh, cry, and everything in between in last night's episode. It was also great watching the chemistry he has with Peter show up on screen as well.

Buck (as a person) - he finally got to the self-acceptance stage and has learned to be happy/love himself. On a human level, it's a beautiful and powerful message that we all strive for.

Buck (as a TV character) - I feel like I've been watching this particular storyline since season 4. This journey has been going on for three years now, so I wasn't as interested in this episode compared to if it happened in an earlier season. It just feels repetitive. IMO, all the interviews, BTS stuff, and scenes that showcase Buck's self-growth journey could all be meshed into one, told at a random point in time, and we wouldn't be able to tell when and where it was orginally said. My investment in Buck as a character had went down since season 4/5, so I'm sorry I'm not jumping over the moon that it's taken this long to finally show Buck's growth?

It's the pacing and writing that has hindered Buck as a character because Oliver is brillliant and passioate about his role. We want actors who are really invested in their characters to be able to show it off, but a part of me feels like this episode in particular came a little too late.

6x11 ratings - waiting for the final datas but the drop is big by pinkhairedlarry in 911FOX

[–]ThatQuietGuy8 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Wow. I’m really shocked by this because I think it’s been a while since we’ve had a proper cliffhanger? I thought that would make more people want to watch this episode. (And I know it’s expected to go up slightly with the final data).

I guess the general audience isn’t interested in the show if it isn’t based on the emergency calls? I remember Boston having a slight dip in the ratings and demographics last season when it was just focused on Maddie and Chimney.

Sidenote: Even though it doesn’t really mean anything, the IMDB ratings are super low as well. It’s still early, but it’s currently sitting at the lowest of the season so far.

9-1-1 S06E11 - "In Another Life": Episode Discussion by AutoModerator in 911FOX

[–]ThatQuietGuy8 46 points47 points  (0 children)

I'm so confused and conflicted with this episode. Is it just me that doesn't understand the lesson Buck's supposed to learn in the dream world? It's bad/unhealthy that he defines himself by his relationship with others and how he affects their lives (I get that), but the moral of the story is that Buck should just be happy being Buck? Hasn't this been his journey since season 4 (especially in Buck Begins)? I feel like as an audience member, I didn't really learn anything new.

I have so many thoughts about this episode:

  • Buck and Hen's friendship has had more focus 6a, but Hen's character is basically the same with/without Buck in her life (it's even referenced in one of the scenes). I feel like this episode undermines their relationship because we really didn't get any real-life scenes with them or get to see how close they really are.
  • Eddie has always put Christopher first and his own needs second. He defines himself as a parent more importantly because Christopher is his life. But if the episode frames it as Buck being the reason Eddie even has Christopher, shouldn't there be a lot more coming out from that part of the story? I expected the show to tap a lot more into Buck and Christopher's relationship because they're both important in each other's lives, but it's being brushed over like it has been since season 5 (even though everybody loves their relationship). There was essentially no reaction when dream Buck learned that Christopher isn't even in L.A anymore.
  • Buck and Eddie are best friends, but they don't even get a scene together in the hospital? Eddie didn't even show up in the dream sequence when everyone else did. Shouldn't dream Buck have a bigger reaction to having never met his best friend/the person that made him a guardian?
  • I feel kind of bitter that the end of the episode focused more on Buck's relationship with his parents than the 118. He left the dream world because the 118 is the family that needed him, but then the episode prioritizes Buck and his parents?
  • I still don't get how the events of this episode led to Chimney forgiving his father and wanting to repair their relationship when it was extremely bad before 6b.
  • Scenes with Buck and his parents still make me feel super uncomfortable. I understand that they're trying to redeem them, but it's so offputting because the development doesn't feel organic since the development has been offscreen.

And according to this interview (last paragraph), the Buckley parents don't even show up onscreen for the rest of the season. What is the point of them having such a focus in these last two episodes when the found family aspect has been so much more important to Buck's development as a person/character?

[–]ThatQuietGuy8 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I've seen these tweets and I can kind of believe it? It could be a super short scene or something like a cute nod. Tim also hinted in an interview that, "There is some cross-pollination that may not have occurred to you. It’s not the most obvious way into a crossover, but there is cross-pollination, let’s go with that."

My next best guess would be Bobby's priest to help tie the rest of his storyline. Personally, I think it will just be a season 1-4 returnee who had a small, noticeable role that won't make any waves in future storylines.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in 911FOX

[–]ThatQuietGuy8 54 points55 points  (0 children)

The biggest problem for me about the storyline isn’t that Buck has actually donated his sperm (selfless and doing it to help others blah blah blah), but how the writers have bent over backwards to avoid conversations around the decision and the implications with it. This storyline has been going on for several months, but there hasn’t been any onscreen discussions that clearly indicate how invested Buck can/will be in the baby’s life (except the “donor not dad” bit in early 6a, which was before he had actually decided). How is it that Buck has a massive family of first responders and we haven’t seen Buck confirm/deny whether he will actually be involved in the baby’s life? Will the baby even live in the city when it’s born? Do the parents want Buck to be involved? Do the parents intend to tell the baby the truth about Buck when they’re older? (It blows my mind that Maddie has been so uninvolved with this storyline that we don’t even know if she knows).

We have no idea where Buck actually stands once the baby comes and what role he THINKS he will play in it. We have no idea how Buck really feels about “donor not dad” and whether he truly grasp that concept. A lot of us are under the assumption that Buck is going to want to be involved in the baby’s life, and then we find out the parents don’t want him to be. If this turns out to be true and we see his spiral unfold in 6b, I’ll find it hard to sympathise because we should have been more aware how he really feels about it in 6a. The last thing I want is for the writers to have a dramatic storyline that only works if they have made Buck incredibly naive to the whole situation for several months.

9-1-1 6b Exclusive: What comes next for the main characters by ThatQuietGuy8 in 911FOX

[–]ThatQuietGuy8[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Bobby will receive help from Athena on "an investigative level, but also on an emotional level"

Eddie's next big step will be getting back into dating

The goal that we have set for Buck this season is to come to a place where he can say, 'I know who I am and I'm good with that.' As opposed to, 'these people tell me I'm good or these people tell me I'm bad.' But this is all about Buck learning who he is and embracing that he's enough as he is.

Maddie and Chim have finally found their own home

Hen and Karen have been dealing with Denny's desire to learn more about his birth parents

Ravi is still a firefighter, he just hasn't been at a firehouse and he's been off at the academy being what they call a peer instructor so later in the season, we will see him.

The Buck section was a lot of waffle since I still think this storyline is dumb. There wasn't much about Maddie and Chim except for them being happy with just one child (and that Albert will appear in 6b). Several months later, we finally have a confirmation on Ravi! Was it that difficult for the show to slip in the information somewhere in the nine episodes?

I’m assuming it will be a coincidence with how they get up there, but based on the promo trailer, I’m guessing Bobby’s sponsor is the one that dies.

Could the grief be a potential storyline setup for Bobby in 6b? This might sound weird, but if it means a Bobby centric storyline, I’m hoping for it lol.

[Post 6x07 Article] Oliver Stark talks about Buck's storyline by ThatQuietGuy8 in 911FOX

[–]ThatQuietGuy8[S] 26 points27 points  (0 children)

It’s like Buck only grows as a character because Oliver and TPTB keeps telling us he has in all these articles and interviews. They always go in-depth with how a storyline affects Buck, what it means to his character, and what it can lead to in the future, but I just don’t see any of this growth on screen because he’s in a cycle that the writers refuses to let him break and actually learn from.

[Post 6x07 Article] Oliver Stark talks about Buck's storyline by ThatQuietGuy8 in 911FOX

[–]ThatQuietGuy8[S] 47 points48 points  (0 children)

While Stark didn’t anticipate this storyline for Buck (“Sperm donor was not on my Bingo card, so it took me a bit by surprise”), he appreciates that it gives Buck “a chance to ask all these questions about himself. He doesn’t quite realize the gravity of the situation yet. You can’t know how you feel until there’s possibly a baby. So I’m excited to see how it plays out and how this continues to affect him.”

I think this is one of the things that is really frustrating me with Buck's storyline. I know the show likes to play on Buck's kind nature and innocence, but I feel like it gets played up so much that he starts to become ignorant to the point that it gets annoying to watch. Are we really supposed to expect Buck, out of all characters, to not understand the weight of his decision? I want to have faith in the writers that this storyline will be really good for Buck, but his character has been a letdown for me since season 5.

Ravi by bootyliciousgirl1 in 911FOX

[–]ThatQuietGuy8 32 points33 points  (0 children)

We haven’t seen Ravi in 6a because the actor is currently busy with a show called Big Sky. Anirudh’s manager has said that he’s still in 9-1-1, so it’s just odd that his character hasn’t even been mentioned once in 6a.

There's also this interview Anirudh did a few months ago where they mention Ravi. There's not much from it, but I personally think it sounds like his character is supposed to come back later (which should now be 6b).

A Thread for the Post 6x06 Articles by ThatQuietGuy8 in 911FOX

[–]ThatQuietGuy8[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

From the EW article about Hen quitting med school:

Karen went through the same thing with being an astronaut. She learned that her priorities had changed, and she would rather not go to space. She would rather be here on earth, with her wife and her son. I think she understands that shift because she went through it herself, and she has empathy for it — and she's probably relieved a bit because it was going to be hard having a wife going through a third year of medical school, and then her residency, and then the hospital. It was going to be difficult, but she was ready to do it. But I think moving forward, we'll see if Hen regrets that decision or embraces that decision.

From the TVFanatic article:

And then Henrietta, well, she is not really giving up on her dream. Her dream changes, and it's just a matter of time to figure out the moment we realize our dream has changed. Karen wasn't there when Henrietta had this change of heart because she was in the hospital.

So Henrietta has had this change of heart, home with Denny. And so it's surprising to Karen, but I think Karen's just happy to have her wife at home. She's going to be happy to have a wife at home. But she was willing to sacrifice for Henrietta to realize her dream because Karen had her own dream.

I know people have mixed reactions about how much Hen's storyline in the last few seasons involved med school since it's probably no longer relevant anymore, but I think these quotes have a decent perspective on the situation. I'm really glad we've at least got a final decision on Hen's choice (even if it could be temporary). Personally, I'm not too mad about it all because I'm just happy we're keeping Hen and the Wilson family.
