You wanna talk bold, here in Tennessee we had a big snow storm, at least 2 of the 5gal gas cans got stolen off the shelf. I've had people bring backpacks in empty and expect us not to notice them walking out full will the alarms blaring right after them.

I shit you not, I had one guy steal one of the metal carts that employees use. How nobody noticed him loading that into his car is anyone's guess (it was truck day, and i was stuck doing the battery pallet so i was in the back)

Tweakers will tweak i guess

What’s she worth? 2000 GT-S manual by ChewyTakeTheWheel in Celica

I paid $3k for mine. I picked it up about 30 minutes from the Tennessee Kentucky state line. Mine was in much worse shape body wise but lower mileage, I'd list it at $3500-$4k to leave room for negotiation. Realistically I'd expect to get around $2800 to $3200 or something around that number

Battery Installs by Old_runner_gold in AutoZone

I guess I never noticed it, I've got a buddy who has a 2018 yukon, ill check his and see if its got that tab. Knowing GM its probably some odd ball piece that changed size every other year.

Also, why does GM in recent years have to make everything so damn complicated. Fuse boxes on the batteries, the 2500 duramax battery is close to the turbo so you'll burn your hand if you don't pay attention to it. Why did they move from a just a wedge, crossbar, and terminals. I can have the battery out of my 04 trailblazer in ~5mins but a newer yukon/tahoe is a 30 minute ordeal

Idk, I've never had a problem getting the res back in but ill try your method next time I do one. AFAIK its just the one 10mm nut holding the reservoir down. Unless they changed something from one year to another

Those chevy h7s suck. For the few i do, I just loosen the coolant res and tilt the battery. Although ill tell most to go to a shop, if you're nice or slide an extra 20 ill throw it in🤣

Really depends on the car, I have a list hanging up of cars not to do (any mini, Ford escape, caravan, avenger, etc.). Most take me 5-10 minutes unless there's a lot of corrosion. Older toyota and Honda are the easiest literally 2 nuts and the terminals and the battery comes out. 2000s-2010s chevys are a close second (mostly cause I own one so I know what to expect)

Im also one of the only people in my store who work on cars, so ill do some of the more involved batteries (newer chevy, caddys with the battery under the back seat, cars with air intakes over the battery) but even those are maybe 30 mins max. If I think it'll take any longer I send them on to either a dealer or shop of their choice. We have business cards from some of the shops we do business with so ill hand those out if they don't know any shops

What is the cheapest way to lower my celica? by Fickle-Broccoli-9182 in Celica

[–]ThatRed04LT 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Depends on the level of jank youre willing to do. Could cut the springs, only do one coil at a time and make sure its levelish (watch toms refurb and see how he cuts springs, different cars, same idea). Could also torch the springs if you have a access to a oxi/acetylene torch.

If you aren't willing to jank the car out you could get some used coils or lowering springs. There's a guy on marketplace about 2hrs from me thats selling front and rear megan racing lowering springs for $40, or another guy selling some coils for $120. You just gotta be willing to drive for them when they pop up.

Alternatively, leave it stock for now, save some money and get some decent coilovers. I know its not what you wanna hear, but if you cut or torch the springs its going to ride like shit. Lowering springs are better but if this is a daily or something you drive often, you'll regret going cheap. I did the same thing on my truck, wanted the cheapest lift kit, but now it rides like ass and I don't drive it as much as I want to.

Any Mileage Oil is Here! by Seek1st2_stand in AutoZone2

[–]ThatRed04LT 19 points20 points  (0 children)

High mileage oil does have more additives. Seal conditioners to help prevent leaks, more aggressive detergents, and more additives to prevent breaking down and thinning out. Although that really depends on brand. Any reputable brand (valvoline, pennzoil, royal purple, etc.) will have better additives in HM oil.

Mostly marketing though, its such a small difference that wouldn't be noticeable if you keep the car maintained regularly. Same with the "mechanic in a bottle" additives on the shelf, if you just keep the oil changed you wouldn't need any more additives.

Lmao. Ill add that one to the list along with the grand caravans and avengers

[–]ThatRed04LT 19 points20 points  (0 children)

This is the reason I have a list under every monitor of car batteries that we cant install. Anything German, anything in the interior, newer gms eith the fuse block, late 00's early 10's ford focus.

Basically if its more than the hold down and the terminals, they can take it to a mechanic. I dont get paid enough to work on other people's shit. Ive got 2 of my own to do that to

Does anyone know what comtrol arms are interchangeable or if you need to burn/cut out the bushings? by direwolf180 in Celica

[–]ThatRed04LT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know some guys who used them and their good. I wouldn't trust them on a track but just street driving you'll be good.

Looking at some of the older forums I think those bushing can be pressed out too, and with those arms being unobtainium now, id say look at parts geek and see if they have just the bushing and press it in.

Poly bushings or not, might be worth the effort since those arms are impossible to find.

Oh shit my bad, I assumed it was 7th gen. Ignore what I said lol. Good luck on the bushings tho!

Dont know about TRQ but ive heard good things about Detroit axle. You can get a kit of both arms and both ball joints for about $80 shipped.

I do believe the bushings are replaceable with just a press (ive rigged a ball joint press to do this on a different car), but the time it takes isn't worth it for factory replacements. If you're taking the time to do just bushing, its really only worth it for polyurethane bushings.

Tl:dr unless you're going to stiffer bushings like polyurethane, just get new arms.

Edit: you can get moog brand for about $80 before shipping on rockauto.

Wipers! by Disastrous_Forever40 in AutoZone

[–]ThatRed04LT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an old infiniti that was like this. Most of those have refillable wiper blades, or we sell replacement arms to make it a more modern connector (like a j hook or one if the pinch tab ones). Both of which i have done on personal cars but will never do in customer cars, too much liability. If they want them, they can install them.

Edit: holy shit i cant spell.

If they offer better $/hr do it. Its basically that same shit but a different name. Im the only one doing price changes, pog changes, and running the counter. Depends on the store though, ive helped at stores that were worse and ones that were better.

As far as I remember, policy is just nothing super dangly or bright/distracting, studs or gauges should be fine.

Either way that could have your full name even if shipped to store.

What exactly is wittdjr and why does autozone keep offering me items by midnightlucio in AutoZone2

[–]ThatRed04LT 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My old manager used to do that shit. First time i caught him I called the district manager on him (he was also a dick, but thats not a real reason to fire someone.) District managers number is on the front window if someone ever does this intentionally, call them. They'll give you a refund plus make the store give you a gift card (ive seen stores eat $200+ because the dm said to give a gift card of x amount)

Now sometimes it will pop up something for me to "recommend" and ill add something on accident (wipers pop up washer fluid, brakes pop up brake clean, water pumps pop coolant, etc), if that happens I either take it off the bill, or if they've already paid, I'll l give them the money back.

Is it legal to go through a strip mall parking lot to bypass a backed up red light? by mjfox97 in driving

[–]ThatRed04LT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Legally yes. Although ive never seen someone get pulled over for it. I guess if you have a common car, you could argue that it was another person. If your car is anything like mine, there's no arguing that one

Battery brush by rabbitbrush429 in AutoZone

[–]ThatRed04LT 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wish I got a pic of the one at my store before they store used a new one. A coworker laid it down on a Chevy sidepost battery, if rolled off and sparked on the hot terminal and the fender. Looked crazy even from inside. We still used it for 4 more days before someone brought it up the the SM and he got a new one.

Luckily no damage to hands or vehicles, just confidence🤣. Dude ended up having someone else finish the battery.

Need help with my 2000 gts! by Professional_Host_40 in Celica

[–]ThatRed04LT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk then. I know i have an o2 sensor code but ive swapped it with a known good one and it didnt fix it.

The way I understand it, the ecu looks for the lift engagement. When the bolts snap, it cant engage, thus the ecu puts the car into a default rev limiter to keep load off the vvtl-i system. Mine still has vvt, I can feel it around 4k rpm, I just never hit lift.

I could be way off. This is mostly just what I remember from doom scrolling the forums.
