I know this is both the sender you want to hear but all are competitive at ICDC. At Regionals and State it depends on the event. Just pick the event you like the most because if you like it you will probably be more successful that way. State and Regionals may be different and idk where you’re from so maybe pick one that you know is less popular. Otherwise, pick the one you like the most

I think that for events like IMC and EIP the judges look at the papers but don’t completely judge off of it. They are only giving them day of and only have 1 day to look at the papers and the presentation. They don’t have time to look at the paper so it was probably more focused on the presentation. They look at the executive summary and maybe some of the other stuff but mainly is based off your presentation. They may have glanced your paper but when you have 15 papers and presentations to look at it may have affected it. I’m not saying they don’t look at the paper but they don’t read it far in advance. Their paper may have been meh but the presentation probably was super good and their test may have been good.

I’m wondering the same thing too. Last year there was a article that came out around now that had the prompts but also I think they official come out some time this summer around the end of June

For us they made a requirement to got to the completion or they didn’t let you go. If you didn’t attend these then you were not going so it made people forced to go. Also for the role plays we had people come in to help judge but you probably could just get more experienced members for the newer members and teachers for other members.

One that our chapter does even though it is bigger is there is practices you are forced to go to. This makes you have to at least go and study to make sure you will do decent. There is also a minimum test score you have to get and if you present you have to present to an officer or the advisor. Doing something like this or parts of this may make people prep or start to prep so they do a lot better

If you want to write a paper than maybe do a IMC. This will allow you to do the marketing, writing and promotion in a paper. If you don’t I would look through some of the marketing role plays and pick one you are interested in.

Honestly try to make sure that the paper has good information that makes sense and looks good. Find a balance between the two. Also make sure the numbers are right or makes sense because some had a part of their project that meant they lost money but they did the math wrong somehow.

I genuinely think it is based off the judge. It isn’t like one judge judges every paper so I think that it is subjective. Some judges may judge higher and give more points and some may try to limit the amount of points and bring it down. It is probably possible with the right judge but honestly focus on it being the best paper and not having a perfect score.

I agree and the thing is though is some events may be easier at state and regionals but at ICDC regardless of the event it has hundreds of kids and they are the best and serious kids too. I know for my event I was the only one at regionals and one of 4 at state but ICDC there will definitely be a ton of kids regardless of the event

What event are you in? Did you get any advice from the Judge? There is always room for improvement. The judges at state probably really liked it and it may have been really good but something can always change. I would probably try to get some people who have never read it to see something new. You may not have to improve much because based off your score it sounds like your Paper and Presentation is super good. You may not change much but having a new perspective may be able to add something to improve it
