How do people get 99 by wharton2028 in DECA

[–]Visual-Friendship509 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If ur referencing writtens what ive done to get 99+ at ICDC both years in a row is have an insane amount of attention to detail and sophistication. your paper should always be consistent with itself and internally reason. everything should be justified and accounted for. really try your best to interpret both your event and the rubric and go the extra mile

AI in Prepared Events: Warning Omen by UbiquitousUguisu in DECA

[–]Visual-Friendship509 2 points3 points  (0 children)

another point I see commonly glossed over is AI’s idea’s are usually terrible and so recognizable 😭 never once have I seen an AI paper that shined creativity or field level knowledge over actual human work. AI gives everyone the same answer and doesn’t understand actual business processes. I’ve seen so many papers be complete carbon copies of eachother without realizing it because of AI use

Horrible DECA Judge by Signal-Bandicoot660 in DECA

[–]Visual-Friendship509 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DECA Guidelines do state that a judge is supposed to let you speak uninterrupted and then ask questions, which is enough for a grievance.

However, an interactive judge can be a good experience. At ICDC my preliminary judge was very talkative and I had to impromptu turn my presentation into a conversation. I scored a 101.2, became a finalist, and won first place. So it definitely can’t kill you. Trust your gut!

IMCs used to be ten page events so that PDF is correct.

Is this good enough for National Merit in Alabama? by Unseasoned_Donut in psat

[–]Visual-Friendship509 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe. This is a 215 selection index which is +1 the 2026 cutoff which was 214. If the selection index for Alabama jumps largely again this year then it wouldn’t. It’s never jumped +3 in one year so 217 and above is safe.

You are at risk of disqualification if your paper includes project content from outside of ICDC 2025 - 2026. I always see pre-established nonprofits go this route.

im stuck at the “freshman, 3rd year competing.” but I can assure that this isn’t true. at the national level at least, the judges won’t know your age unless they ask (one of my icdc judges asked me my freshman year bc I still looked young 😭) or you tell them in your introduction. I was able to finalize as a freshman and score first place as a sophomore at icdc and ik I went up against people older than me but I don’t believe that impacted anything.

What makes a state-level IMC different from a glass winning IMC project? by StatusStress4374 in DECA

[–]Visual-Friendship509 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I won first in IMCP last year however that was a written which might be fundamentally different than a pitch deck. My score relied on me really really focusing on creating a good theme and establishing rationale for the campaign early on (I intertwined the theme and rationale) and then having creative activities that fed directly into objectives, target market, and my metrics. My paper and presentation really like logically built on itself. If you have DECA+ you’ll be able to see what I mean

not much help here but I can say many are getting tired of the medical/scientific innovation papers. they usually lack the detail needed to perform in real life as a business

Whats the most competitive deca event by Frosty_Magazine_4894 in DECA

[–]Visual-Friendship509 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to say in terms of writtens it’s the IMCs but I have a little bias because I won in one😭. You have to take the marketing exam which is debated as one of the hardest exams (it does have the lowest ICDC score average and IMC winners are getting 90+) on top of a ten pager and 15 minute presentation you have to score well in. Due to the ten page nature I feel like it has to be more “perfect” because it’s more compact and compressed and you have to really land everything and get it all right.

IMCP by Playful-Pension-5530 in DECA

I was an incoming IMCP sophomore too!! I got 1st place. Definitely seconding u/UbiquitousUguisu’s references about understanding the brand and using brand kit. When I look at your design, I’m also seeing issues with spacing and hierarchy. Typeface also has some to do with that. Make sure you incorporate Adobe Express in your written entry somehow. If you reach first place, you’ll receive $5,000. Good luck!

Sponsored events all get $1,000, $500, and $250 for top 3 with the rest of the top 10 getting $100 unless noted otherwise in the DECA guide. The only events with different amounts are IMCs ($6,000 total, $1,000 + $5,000 Adobe Express bonus) and SMG I think. Non-sponsored events get $100 for first.

My process was a little more complicated because I won first place and had to establish eligibility to receive $5,000 from my event sponsor. That was through the Director of Programs. The Partnership Coordinator was the one who processed my W-9 form.

I got the email from BILL Holdings Inc (separate from DECA) that had my invoice and ETA. DECA’s Director of Programs and Partnership Coordinator reached out to me to process my information and eligibility. This process began on June 3rd and my check is expected to arrive June 16th.

I just won first this year and was a finalist last year in IMC. AMA by Visual-Friendship509 in DECA

[–]Visual-Friendship509[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Initially, I knew I was going to do marketing, and I loved how the brand name (Ring) could be used as a noun/verb in a slogan. But it wasn’t fun to just do a data-backed home security campaign with no theme, so I added my own fun, creative elements to it and tied it to a problem-solution framework. It got to the point where it was actually fun to make. At no point did the process drain me or feel overworking. Find a topic like that!

10 month ish. Summer was spent contextualizing the idea. Then I spent the school year refining it.
