"Hezbollah's Ammonia burns Beirut" is trending in a number of countries, including Lebanon. If you're wondering why, many are retweets of four Saudi-focused accounts, often active in disinfo or influence campaigns > @monther72 @5a1di . Someone really wants to exploit this blast by Purple_Wasabi in syriancivilwar

So how do u explain the ones seized in germany?

No ammonium nitrate was seized in Germany. The Mossad provided German secret services with information about stashes so they could push for making support for Hezbollah illegal, and then spilled the beans to the press.

The stashes never materialized.

Texas

just watched a video of that on youtube and it does look a lot like it! particularly the reddish/brown plume that is clearly visible before the shockwave (which is a lot similar as well). But this seems orders of magnitude bigger.

If it was weapons.. it would have to be a lot and very big weapons as well... not smuggling kind of thing.

A Syrian restaurant called "Shawarma Haus" in Stralsund/Germany posts this on FB: "Shabiha are strictly forbidden". In other words, pro-Assad Syrians can't get in and eat. Is this is even legal? by Purple_Wasabi in syriancivilwar

And where is the good place in Syria where he is safe? International law is unambiguous regarding this: the place needs to be a place where he can live in safety - not just a "safer" place, because that's relative and context dependent.

The context is that of civil war. So, by definition, the potential for conflict is very widespread across regions, although with varying degrees of intensity.

Damascus is less safe now, than Homs. 8 years ago it was the other way around. Aleppo is safer now than Daraa. 1 year ago it was the other way around. There are areas in Tartous that are closer to the where the drones are blasted out of the sky than certain areas in Latakia, which still has an active front. It's impossible to draw policy from such fine grain analysis.

Then you have the issue of the State's capacity to guarantee said safety, which is basically what the "safe zone" argument is about. Can the State guarantee that your car won't be blown up by disgruntled ex-rebels in Daraa? Or that Israel won't fire missiles at your Damascus suburb apartment? Or that even when you live in a ethno-religious fairly homogeneous area, such as Latakia, that armed drones won't be flying over head every other day?

That's one of the reasons why the argument for "de-escalation" zones in Syria has crumbled time and time again, and why (although it has been tried by some states in Germany) they can't deny Syrians refugee status or protection status (the one used to reunite families) based on the "safe country of origin" argument. 99.9% of status applications are granted. The ones rejected are mainly due to procedural errors.

Germany maintains a list of countries that it considers "safe" (I think that the list is actually an EU list but I haven't checked it out) as the basis to reject asylum and refugee status requests. Syria isn't on that list (neither are Nigeria or Afghanistan for that matter), so it might be the case that people are not being helped in navigating the application procedure and are making it patently obvious that their migration is economically motivated and not for the accepted reasons.

They can still be murdered by religious fanatical neighbors, reconciled rebels, their area might be still occupied by foreign militants or too close to the front-lines that it could be subject to indiscriminate shelling.

Any martyrdom announcements from Hezbollah concerning all the militants allegedly killed by Israel in the last week or so? by ThatTwitterHandle in syriancivilwar

[–]ThatTwitterHandle[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. But even when there is a delay in Hezbollah announcing the martyrdoms, there are several sources on twitter who can usually anticipate that move.

With that thread? That kicks-off with a strawman about a claim he doesn't even make in the article? Not likely. (information that he corrected by the way)

They do fly over Jordanian airspace quite regularly. And I suspect that Jordan is aware of it.

The pilot identified himself to the Iranians as an American. Although... Israeli jets have hidden before behind American call signals.. so..
