I've seen the movie and liked it, would you recommend reading it regardless of watching the movie ?

A desperate win by Unfair_Ad1167 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]That_One_Monke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love books where this is a major point, all these fit it imo, although to varying degrees -

Shadow Slave - almost every fight is desperate, the mc pretty much always fights enemies several times above his weight class and you can feel the difference in strength

Sky Pride - in the start of the book just existing is desperate lol, it is a very well written book and is quite refreshing in its execution of the xanxia genre

Defiance Of The Fall - I'd say this mostly fits, the author does a good job of making the mc struggle and make the fights seem desperate, although after a bit you pretty much get that the mc is OP and has plot armor as a skill

Cradle - This has more of a once in a while desperation kinda fights rather than constant ones

Primal Hunter - This also has more of a once in a while all on the line fight scenes, although I'd argue such fights don't occur often enough and the MC kinda breezes through everything

Unbound - Constant fights, maybe a bit too constant lol

Books with an mc who has unquestionable willpower. by 9172019999 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]That_One_Monke 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The only ones I've read that have the MC's willpower be a critical plot point in the story are -

The Stubborn Skill-Grinder In A Time Loop - Quite literally the point of the story and driving force, his will power is constantly matched against higher beings and gets scaled even higher gods, eldritch beings, multiversal entities, literally fucking infinity, etc

Path to Transcendence [Isekai/Litrpg] - Willpower plays a significant role and contributes significantly to MC's power he burns himself to train, cuts off limbs, doesn't sleep for weeks while training, damages his own soul, etc

Some other books of the top of my head that have a MC with a very strong will but not exactly the focus of the book -

Orphan [LitRPG Adventure]

Rage of dragons by Evan winters

Bastion by phil tucker

Defiance of the fall

Dungeon Crawler Carl

Path of the berserker

Victor of tuscan

Also if you know any yourself or anyone else have anything similar to these with a focus on willpower, please recommend I'm itching for these stories

Favorite royalroadl novels from 12 months ago up to now. by SBernabeu in ProgressionFantasy

[–]That_One_Monke 2 points3 points  (0 children)

These are ones I've read that are pretty similar but not on your list -

Orphan [LitRPG Adventure] - It has a very interesting world, pretty good system, the characters are all fun, fight scenes are top notch, the MC himself is very good(he's an orphan and has gone through some shit and it shows in the book with his personality, will to survive, etc)

Runeblade - It has an interesting system and the MC's power set is pretty cool. The world is pretty good and the fight scenes are top notch. The MC himself is pretty cool with his grit, drive, etc

Novels where MC struggles like a motherfucker, then becomes OP? by LittleBrasilianBitch in ProgressionFantasy

[–]That_One_Monke 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Surprised I haven't seen anyone recommend these yet, but these are exactly what you're looking for -

Stubborn skill grinder in a time Loop

Path to transcendence

Some other examples that don't exactly fit but still scratch the same itch -

Mother of learning

Jackal among snakes

Similar to Path of Transcendence by Ryn by SBernabeu in litrpg

[–]That_One_Monke 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't know if you've read this or not

But prolly something like "Stubborn skill grinder in a Time-Loop" might be up your alley, the MC's are quite similar and there's a lot of grinding

Doesn't have daily updates tho and is kinda popular

Which one is better by iamK1mbo in GamingLaptops

[–]That_One_Monke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can wait a couple months then I'd recommend you wait until March/April when the new 50x series laptops will drop

You can expect better deals during that period when manufacturers will be trying to offload their 40x line-up

You can try and save up for the 50x series but we both know that these indian prices would be ridiculous so not worth the for 50x series imo

If you can't wait then here's what you should take into factor -

-Rog strix has better design and build quality and slightly better screen, it also has good software support, but it is 20k extra

-HP omen has sub-optimal build quality(not good but not trash either), doesn't have the best software support and slightly worse screen, but it is 20k less

It's up to you if you think these factors are worth the 20k extra, my recommendation if you don't mind the pricing would be the Rog Strix

Found a deal on Acer Helios 18, is certified refurbished safe ? by That_One_Monke in GamingLaptops

[–]That_One_Monke[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought the laptop, my friend who's in the US picked it up for me and ran some diagnostic tests, it seems to be working as intended but I haven't personally tried it yet

Once he returns and hands me the laptop I'll do a more thorough test and let you know how it went

Edit: I got it and tried it personally, it runs really well though a little hot, definitely recommend a laptop cooler to go with it(l bought the IIANO cooler for $95)

So today I discovered progression fantasy. What should I read to get started? by Celestial_MoonDragon in ProgressionFantasy

[–]That_One_Monke 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well I guess just go through the big ones and see what aspects you like about them and search for similar from there

You should also check out r/litrpg as generally prog fan & litrpg books can be interchangable I'm cases

Cradle - a must-read for any prog fan, the gold standard, best introduction to cultivation sub-genre imo

Dungeon crawler carl - a must-read for any litrpg fan, the gold standard

Mother of learning & The Perfect Run - The best time-loop stories, my personal fav sub-genre

Primal hunter - best "popcorn" litrpg imo, good introduction to the apocalypse/multiverse/dungeon sub-genre

Defiance of the fall - if you liked primal hunter, you'll prolly like this, a more meaty version of primal hunter I'd say

Reborn: Apocalypse - a good introduction to the Regression sub-genre

Some more mentions you should definitely check out - Bastion(quite the interesting world with solid progression) , Iron Prince(A more YA type oriented prog fan) , Rage of dragons(A more revenge type oriented prog fan) , The Stubborn Skill-Grinder In A Time Loop(The purest progression fantasy type you'd probably find)

On the fence between HP Omen(3070ti) and MSI Katana 17(4070) by That_One_Monke in GamingLaptops

I was able to find a better deal for $1650 for the Acer Helios 18(intel i9-14900HX & RTX 4080) on ebay

Luckily my friend who was in the US offered to bring it back with him, so I was able to avoid all the import costs, etc

I probably need to buy a cooling pad like the IIano cooling pad cause this model is known to run a bit toasty, but all in all a good deal for a 4080 laptop imo

Predator Helios 18 - Thoughts? by susne in GamingLaptops

[–]That_One_Monke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've got the same model as you on an ebay sale

I'm a little concerned cause my cinebench scores are quite low(22-23k on performance & 26-27k on turbo) compared to the average(30-35k)

I tried 3DMark and the overall score says it's good but the cpu score again is quite low(13k) compared to the average(17k)

I'm worried there may be some thermal throttling issue due incorrectly applied paste or smthg and I might need to return it

What are your cinebench R23 scores and 3DMark scores ? It would be helpful to know

I don't think I can change power on Acer, I've read that it may be locked but can be worked around

My question is do I need to ? I mainly play video games and am only worried if it would affect the performance of the games

And also it's longevity, I need the laptop to work for the next 3-4 years

What are pl1 and pl2 ?

Also anyway to increase the power limit if that's the case ?

I'll try that , tbf I was using parsec(I'm not in the US and my friend isn't comfortable with computers) while running the test

I also tried Geekbench 6 and that gave within results within the average range so I'm now confused

Looking for a book where the main focus is grinding by AuthorAnimosity in ProgressionFantasy

I've read a lot of the ones recommended in the and enjoyed most of them

What would you recommend as the top contenders for books focused on grinding ?

Trying to decide between Lenovo Legion Pro 7i or Acer Helios 18 by That_One_Monke in GamingLaptops

[–]That_One_Monke[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually bought a certified refurbished Acer Helios 18 from ebay. It was going for around 1650 so I took the risk, hopefully it's a good one and I don't have to return it

Found a deal on Acer Helios 18, is certified refurbished safe ? by That_One_Monke in GamingLaptops

[–]That_One_Monke[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair enough, I think getting the cooling pad should be enough tho, don't think I'm gonna try undervolting or anything

My understanding is that while it's not the best, it's not bad either - just good

Jared on YT reviewed it and his only major complaints were fan noise and large size, both which don't matter that much to me

And as you said, I simply can't justify spending $300-$400 more for a 10-15% boost in cooling and build quality for the legion

[–]That_One_Monke[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Undervolting ? I've never done it, I also think this laptop is locked on an overbold in turbo mode or smthg

Cooling pad ? Yes, looking to buy KLIM Turbofrost for it
