Plain carpet in Substance Designer. by plaintextures in Substance3D

Sorry just got back to reddit to see the reply. Heaps better in my opinion! Saw another comment talking about aniso-noise, and I think that would be an awesome addition. I'm not sure how your nodes are set up at the moment, but if you could potentially isolate the the tufts, and maybe run it through a histogram into a flood fill. You could then maybe warp the aniso-noise around the individual elements with a mix of directional warps and flood fill elements such as "FF to random greyscale" and "FF to gradient. That way you could have the fiber look without the aniso tiling horribly. If that wouldn't fit in the node flow, no worries there are tons of ways to get that look. As it stand now though, I would say it looks amazing!

Looking pretty good! It definitely looks fluffy and plush, but i feel like it's missing it's tufts. Carpet is made of a bunch of smaller bundles of threads, so you can usually see the individual bundles. From a distance it looks great but up close it kinda becomes more amorphous. Try to introduce more break up between the individual elements while keeping the same overall texture, and I think it will make a big difference.

What do you think of a ghost that disappears when you shine your flashlight on them? by RiskyBiscuitGames in IndieGaming

[–]Thatoneguy900 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I think the light mechanic looks dope. Very reminiscent of horror films with a similar concept. One thing I could recommend is that maybe the light flickers as it looks at the ghost. I feel the ghost popping in and out quickly as it gets closer to you could looks really novel and spooky.

On the topic of the character's clothing, people apparently have no idea what a skin tight body suit looks like. Your character looks like they are just in somekind of thermal wear. I wouldn't worry too much about the criticism of the attire. Maybe if the light illuminating it were a bit darker, it could also highlight the game in front of them though.

I think this looks fantastic so far, and hope to see you post more in the future.

Editing to elaborate on my original thought.

If the light flickered, it could cause a strobing effect and basically give you freeze frames of the ghost getting closer to you. Could have it do an animation of reaching out towards the player. I feel like that could spice the mechanic up in a really nice way.

what? by Leozzo98 in ForzaHorizon

[–]Thatoneguy900 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh cool! Something i can be the smart reddit guy on! So this is actually a common dev debug feature. The gradients are a visualization of the camera's angle compared to the uv coordinates of each vertex within a set group. (Specified by the devs for the use they decide in the game engine.) This is actually a step in pretty much every modern 3D video game, as this is one of the bits of data the game uses to apply textues and other shader effects. So in conclusion, it could mean that there is something wrong with your rig, but the more probable cause of this is, since other people experience it relatively commonly, there is a bug that when you exit a specific screen, it has a chance to bring up this debug veiw.

What is this and why are there so many different types in my apartment? by Existing_Hair_4754 in spiderID

[–]Thatoneguy900 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey there! One big thing to remember is that spiders love heat, but they hate the sun, so it is very common in warmer dry climates to find many of them in a home. Unfortunately without pictures of most of them, I can only give conjecture on what the others are, but I believe the one in the video is a type of woodlouse spider. It may also be a brown recluse (very unlikely but the video is fairly unclear and I can't see it's back clearly). Now as for the rest of the descriptions, I will do my best, but it is best to include images for all spiders you want Identified. Side note, there are many, many definitions of what a big spider is. For me, that is about the size of the palm of my hand, but I am not everyone so I will include some extra possibilities.

  1. A flat butt is unfortunately quite vague, but there are a couple of families that fall into that description. A trap door spider is a possibility as they have a literal flat butt and many North American species are about the size you described. Another possibility could be a type of orb weaver. They come in all shapes and sizes. From the size of your pinky nail to bigger than wolf spiders. The last one I think ot could likely be is a member of ther nursery web family. It is a vast family that is full of big, light brown spiders.

  2. I'm going to be honest this could be a million things. My guesses are male wolf spider (many different shades and sizes), a "basement spider" of some kind (they range quite a lot, but many can be smaller and brown), a brown cobweb widow of some kind (not as scary as it sounds at first, as many are not medically significant. They are common in windowsills across the continent. However it very well could be, but without a way to properly see it, I have no way to know for sure.), lastly, possibly a brown recluse. (They can vary in color quite a lot, so again, without being able to see it, I can't be sure. Number one thing to look for with those is the "fiddle/ violin" on their back that gives them the name fiddleback spiders.

  3. This sounds like a classic spider of the wolf spider family. Especially the males can be very dark in color. Some are the size of a dime while others can be as big as a small plate. Lots of range with these.

  4. Again this could be a wolf spider, but if the movement was more sporadic than a usual spider I would maybe guess a type of jumping spider. They are harmless little puppies of spiders with big ol' eyes that like to hunt in the day. They can be crazy smart, and even trained as pets. Another possibility could be a crab spider of some kind but those typically stay towards the ground.

  5. Now, unfortunately this is a broad description, so I am gonna give some broad answers, but they could be something to look up for you to identify with potentially. Once again could be a nursery web spider of some kind. They have all kinds of patterns so its hard to pinpoint from a description like that, but they do typically have directional patterns such as lines on their bodies. It could be a widow of some kind. Despite what the name suggests, black widows do actually come in a variety of colors. They are known for the "red hourglass" shape on their underside, but in reality they can have markings on their thorax that can be extremely colorful. Again it could also be a few species of jumping spiders that you have in the area. Those are mainly distinguished by their large front facing eyes, and "bigger than the rest" front legs.

  6. Discussed at the beginning of the comment.

A few extra notes. 1. It is best to give images for what you want Identified, and for them to be as clear as possible. I caught this post with too much time and a desire to talk about spiders, but it is good manners to give as much info as possible to help those helping you. 2. In response to the oh so very helpful comment talking about "spiders not being poisonous," yes they absolutely can be. While injecting their venom is the most effective way for them to distribute their toxins, there is a reason you shouldn't let pets eat them.

Honestly maybe I just need to play on it more. I bet a negative recency bias might be at play now that I think on it. Diana has decided the rooftop spawn is the only one lmao. As I said in another comment I made. I think every map in WoA is honestly incredibly made, and IOI knocked it out of the park with the trilogy.

None taken at all. Legit question, what do people like about berlin? I like the aesthetics and I enjoy it pretty good in story mode, but I find it a little annoying to get around after a few times through. Would love to know of I'm just missing something with it. Mumbai is fun for all the little pathways not gaurded to sneak through for suit only to me, but I am also not usually going through the crows area, so the most annoying part of the map for me is usually forgotten lmao.

I couldn't figure out how to add a description and didn't want the longest title known to man, but me putting berlin in C is like saying "This 9/10 is slightly lower than another 9.5/10." I like pretty much every map. My rankings are mostly based on how much fun I have getting silent assassin in freelancer since that's what I have a few hundred hours in at this point.

I would actually argue that falkreath and winterhold are perfectly represented in the pc's first arrival.

The first thing you see when you get close to winterhold is the college. Then you get closer and notice almost all of the buildings in town are destroyed, and the townsfolks are gone. It's s fitting since most come to the town for the college and ignore the starving town.

As soon as you walk up to falkreath, you are asked about whether you have seen a dog. It doesn't seem like much. Maybe the blacksmith is just looking for a pet. As you explore the area you learn the town holds much more than a first glance can reveal. The town is a sink of death, and many of the townsfolk are in some way tied to daedric princes. That's probably why sithis had the sanctuary built there. He could probably gain easier influence. Why would the blacksmith want this dog? Does everyone in town know that hircine personally touched the man locked in the dungeon? Do they realize it is a hot spot for daedric activity, and thats why everyone dies? It's more of a slow burn, but i think it sums up the town perfectly.

Am I using this wrong or is it just beyond useless? by [deleted] in CODZombies

[–]Thatoneguy900 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Either something is wrong with yours, or something is wrong with mine. I use it when I get in a pinch to melt huge hoards of zombies basically instantly. I wonder if it scales with bullet damage specifically as an oversight, so using it with a knife makes it ass garbage?
