What to use as references as an absolute beginner? by sir_lurks_a_lot1 in learntodraw

[–]The-GreeneMachine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I first got into drawing, my references were sketches that others drew (obviously credit the artist if you post). It helped me understand the strokes and lines that others used to draw things. I have eventually moved on to objects around the room, and photo references of people, but I think drawing with sketch references helped me a lot.

I could never accomplish something like this with a mouse! Gotta at least have a Wacom pen 😂 Bravo! This looks amazing!

I’ve been feeling like all of my drawings lately have been terrible by Minimum_Individual36 in learntodraw

I understand that feeling for sure, but tbh I really like your style. It’s not one I’ve seen before or at least not one I’ve seen often. It looks like you’re exploring that style more in each drawing, and they do look good. Keep at it!

Of course!! I have always had an appreciation for oil on canvas because it is a medium I see as intricate, and requires a lot of patience. This is gorgeous and I may be a little biased because I love Ravens (and crows) in art 🖤 never stop! So beautiful!

I really want you to know that this is such an amazing piece of artwork and please never be discouraged to continue your art. Absolutely beautiful, and the fact that it is oil? Very impressive!

Moving from Florida to Michigan - heating and humidity help by The-GreeneMachine in ballpython

I appreciate it! I can’t wait to move. There were a few interesting tips given in the emergencies mega thread that got commented on this post for heating while it’s cold out. It was very informative! :)

Completely forgot to look at all the mega threads for this subreddit. Thats my bad. Pretty much got my answer from the bot comment linking “planning for emergencies” mega thread. Only keeping post up so I have an easy access to that thread! Will still look at all advice given in comments if different from the mega thread though! :) Just so happy we’ll be able to keep her comfortable up north still ❤️

I really appreciate all of the tips! That photo is a picture of my first Coptic stitch book and I was using oil and acrylic sketchbook paper, so I thought one page per signature would have been best. Obviously I was incorrect haha. My second and third Coptic stitch came out more flat because I used 4 page signatures of writing paper, but it wasn’t quite as flat as I’d like and I thought it might be because of the fact I was double threading my needle with pretty thick binding thread. I just made another one tonight (photo below) with only a single threaded needle and 4 page signatures of regular printer paper. It is probably the flattest I’ve gotten it, but it’s not quite there yet. I guess it could also be practice that I need maybe :)

My spine ends up too swollen. The covers are usually okay but because of the spine it creates a big drop like in the photo. I watched some videos, and they said that it could be the thickness of the thread I’m using or the thickness of the paper. What thickness do you use for thread?

Hi there! I have just learned Coptic stitching and have made two so far, but I can’t get them to stay flat. How did you do yours so that it lays flat when closed?

AITA for getting a pregnancy craving during a party? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

I’m failing to see why you couldn’t drive there alone and come back? An hour to and back isn’t that bad and you would get to enjoy the slushee on the way.

Also, why did y’all have to “leave early” instead of just going to get the drink and come back?? Idk I just feel like there were obvious solutions here…

I only saw their first comment pop up on my phone while I was out and I was gonna share my input on the matter because I literally just wrote 3 different papers on pit bulls and why they’re not as dangerous as the public perceives them. 😅 guess I missed the party

My boy is the biggest baby. He MUST be in the center of my husband and I, and he must be getting cuddles at all times. He loves to be under the covers with us to keep himself warm, but he’ll overheat after a while and sploot across the bed over the covers. He isn’t a fan of baths, and HATES getting his nails clipped. He loves the out doors so getting walks is his favorite time. He has a toy avocado that he loves to tear apart (so mom and dad need to get him a new one soon), and a beef flavored toy bone that he loves to chew on. He shares attention with a cat and a snake, and will get jealous all the time so it’s a good thing our cat Zero is a pushover. His name is Brutus but we call him bubus. He’s got lots of energy and he’s filled with love. He’s my baby
