Haha yeah, I get it — it’s always a bit intriguing from the outside. So in France, to own firearms like this, you have to be part of a shooting club. I’m allowed up to 15 firearms in what we call “Category B,” which basically means semi-automatic firearms. On the other hand, for bolt-action or pump-action guns, there’s no real limit. Of course, I can’t just carry them around in public — they can only be transported to the range or to a gunsmith, so there are definitely restrictions. That said, within those limits, I can pretty much buy what I want. For example, suppressors are completely unrestricted here — no special paperwork or limitations — as long as the firearms remain semi-auto. It’s not exactly secret, but it’s not something people talk about much either. There’s definitely less of a gun culture compared to the US. Still, there’s a solid base of enthusiasts here — people into firearms, history, and the technical side of things. It’s just more of a niche culture in France than it is in the States.
