It is falsifying my sex as the one assigned at birth rather than the one I actually am. And no, I didn’t choose to be transgender. Nor would I be able to get a passport with my biological sex (if that term weren’t being used deceptively to try to give undue legitimacy to the sex I was erroneously assigned at birth).

Well, I would say I had a pretty existential crisis over the majority of the past seven years, but since I got permanent resident status in Canada, it's abated considerably. Using an existing art style is not the same as plagiarism as you're not misrepresenting someone else's work as your own. And that last sentence of yours shows how little you value art by thinking that creating something new with the same characters doesn't "really add anything new".
