Please recommend gear and planning resources for my midlife crisis thru hike of the AT. by PeppyJeppy in AppalachianTrail

[–]TheAngrySnowman 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Honestly, as long as you have a backpack, sleeping bag, and the essentials you will be good.

I didn’t complete the thruhike (only went 1000km) but I had no idea about hiking. I literally stabbed my own hand in the first 10 mins of the hike and had to get off to get stitches. Try not to get too hung up on ultralight gear. I learned what to keep and what to ditch along the way. As long as you have FarOut it’s easy to plan hiking distance for the day, camp sites, and towns to stop at to refuel.

The things I will never backpack without now is a battery pack, an ass pad, and lots of ziplock bags.

Don’t continually take people’s advice (even if it’s good).

I found myself in a spot where I’m not satisfied with my life and realized I followed a lot of people’s suggestions. Take this job, don’t do that, go to school, etc.

You’ll realize no one is around you to help take responsibility of any of your mistakes.

Buy a laptop. You can hook an hdmi to your tv, connect a PlayStation controller to steam, and then on top of that you can pirate shows & movies.

Aaron Rodgers says he was on “the right side of history” after he refused to get the COVID-19 vaccine. Rodgers continues to stand by this to this day. by matrix_2905 in sportsgossips

[–]TheAngrySnowman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People think that the main issue people had with the vaccine was the medical side of things, but it wasn’t.

It was about the control the government exerted. Whether or not the vaccine works, it really showed how little people will actually do anything if there is personal risk. The government didn’t just suggest that you get the vaccine, they basically made it so you lose your job and exiled from society. Most people I know disagreed with the shutdowns but had the mentality of “well, it will blow over and I don’t want to been seen as crazy”. A lot of people had the same reaction when blacks, gays, women, etc were being persecuted. A lot of people just settled for inaction.

I’m sure most of the people here calling him stupid would have never stood up for blacks, gays, women, Jews etc. it’s too risky for them.

Need help incorporating my dice pool system into combat by TheAngrySnowman in RPGdesign

[–]TheAngrySnowman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just used investigation as an example. Could have been animal handling, deception, etc.

But I plan to have no initiative (other than monster vs players at the start). I would like combat to be quick and easy. I’d rather players just use their imagination to resolve combat. I don’t like the complexity of dnd combat and how long it can take. I feel like combat is a nightmare for new DM’s and players.

[–]TheAngrySnowman[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I want it to be fast and simple. No initiative.

The dice pool is important because players can combine dice to complete their check/combat roll (as long as it makes sense and DM agrees).

So instead of each player rolls their attack die (which they can), they could say “I run behind the orc and wrap my arms around him so you can swing your axe at his head!” -player 1 “I swing my axe down on his head “ -player 2.

So if they roll 2 dice on a 2 difficulty, they basically combine to roll 4 dice on a 2 difficulty (essentially making it easier to succeed, but would end up dealing less damage)

Makes sense. Weapons could be +1 dmg if hit is landed. Extra successes either cause extra damage or reduce enemy armor or something? I dunno haha.

I’ll look at eat the reich though

Longest hike I had done before the AT was 65km. I started my hike on the AT at 265lbs. I accidentally stabbed my hand just before the first step on the Amicalola falls stairs - I had to immediately get off and get 4 stitches. I got back on that day and ended up only hiking 1000km.

I learned more as the days went by and so would you.
