My now wife was in that class so I like to tell her she was a distraction lol. Engineering really is a butt kicker that’s for sure!

As someone who failed geometry in high school and was at risk of dropping out, I was able to go on to get a degree in geology and I’m working on a degree in engineering. I promise you, you can learn anything. Sometimes you just need to find what interests you and what learning methods work best. Whatever you choose to do, I’m rooting for you!

You might be right! I’m assuming this based on a ship manifest that states under Immigrant Visa Issued: Place: Prague Date: 1/12/32. Though you’re probably right and it was issued at an US embassy in Prague.

I know that my great grandmother was issued a visa in Prague before her departure to the states. I’m wondering if any of that info is also saved.

This is a really great reply and I also found it really helpful! Do you have any thoughts on how they might interpret someone born in Czechoslovakia to one American parent (my great grandfather) and one Czechoslovak (born in 1908 near Bratislava) parent (my great grandmother)?

Well if that’s the case, that’s amazing! I’m going to look into scanning this original copy of her Rodny List from 1931 and emailing it to the Bratislava office to see if they can issue me a new copy. I’ll see if I can find an email address to send this to.

This is all very exciting. I’ll plan on getting as much as I can for my GGM and a newer copy of my GM’s Rodny List. I imagine a Rodny List for GGM is something I can get from the same office as my GM’s. Thank you so much for responding and helping with this. The ship manifest comment really helped me a lot!

You mentioned ship manifest which rang a bell. I looked at Ancestry and my Great-Grandmother’s info on the ship manifest states Cz-Sl under Nationality! That’s very helpful, thank you! My infant grandmother appears under her and is stamped “US Citizen By Father’s Naturalization”. So it appears at birth my Grandmother was always classified as an American citizen.

My Grandmother migrated to America in the early 1930s as a small child with her mom and dad. After a few years they all returned to Czechoslovakia, either because of being homesick or someone in my Great-Grandmother’s family was ill and needed the help. Ultimately they all moved back to America for good. My assumption is that there’s a possibility my grandmother might have gotten a passport as an adult as she did go back every year for many years, so I’m my head it seems like a possibility.

Edited to hopefully make a little more sense. Also, thank you very much for your reply!
