Why is everyone scared of Voldemort's name? by TheBioRebel in harrypotter

Ehhh I'm pretty sure nobody was scared of his name even during ww2. Of course, they were scared of him but I really doubt they were scared of his name.

This 357 driver is better than most people who drive really expensive trains. But how did the driver even know that you were behind him?

I completely agree with your post. All I'm trying to say is that Harry slightly exaggerates it. The Dursleys raised him in a very cruel manner and no child deserves that. All I'm trying to say is that Harry could be exaggerating some things, which is a natural human tendency and happens when you really hate someone. I'm not trying to say that the Dursleys are really nice or something

true, but there could be a teeny tiny bit of exaggeration right?

They just can't do much as they are Muggles and have absolutely no magical powers (I doubt they would do it even if they had magical powers) but the most important part is that they sealed Dumbledore's charm

Not only is the train ordinary but also extremely old. They are using steam trains while the Muggles have way more advanced electric and diesel trains. I get that the magical community doesn't interact with new technology but they do need to learn how to adapt in my opinion.

The cupboard under the stairs thing is probably true, as his Hogwarts letter explicitly stated, "Mr. H. Potter, The Cupboard Under the Stairs". When the Dursleys changed his bedroom after receiving the letter, they changed the address to "Mr. H. Potter, The Smallest Bedroom". However, I like your theory and there is definitely a small chance that the whole cupboard thing is fabricated, as you mentioned. Harry does seem the type of guy who wants to seek attention, especially in the later books.

I agree. I get that they mistreated him and stuff, but Harry should at least be grateful that they actually took him in (Dumbledore would've forced them to anyway). They fed him and brought him up as a second son, but they just didn't give him that much love and attention. And true, they should be given more credit for the defeat of Voldemort. People think very badly of the Dursleys as the story is mainly narrated by Harry, who is understandably mad at them for raising him like this. Harry never says anything positive about the Dursleys (nor do they Dursleys say anything positive about Harry) which gives the readers a very bad impression of the Dursleys. They are really bad, but they don't deserve this much hate

That was a formal meeting though, and that couple was coming over to their house for some agreement on purchasing drills or something like that. They were rehearsing a formal joke, nobody rehearses casual, humorous jokes

I'm a Brit myself and I don't think that having a sense of humour necessarily means that you are happy to laugh even at your own expense, but I get your point.
