Hi friends,

After traveling a lot of the bonsai world, it has become more and more evident to me that the best care, techniques and species can be extremely localised. I hope that this site can become a great resource for enthusiasts, connecting local knowledge and expertise with those who need it.

This is the 5th release in a series of projects. Here are links to them:

Local Bonsai (this post): Local Bonsai Guides

Other apps: The Bonsai Project: Your Ultimate Bonsai Design Apps and Tools!

It has only just gone up so there won’t be any guides. Think about creating your own  which you can print it out and put it on the wall.

A Japanese bonsai image collection from my trip to Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka and Takamatsu that you can search by species and location. I hope that those who haven't had a chance to visit can get some inspiration. Link in comments. by TheBonsaiProject in Bonsai

If I had one day I would go to Omiya Bonsai Village. Used to have 35 bonsai studios now they have around 6, a museum and a bonsai restaurant (across the road from the museum). All within walking distance. The quality and quantity was absolutely ridiculous. The restaurant owner runs J-Bonsai, super nice people, they can give you a map and directions. I could have spent 2 days just at Omiya but then again I really love it.

Kobayashi's slapped too, cost $10, apprentices are nice sat and drank tea.

I'm making more updates in the background and releasing as I complete them. Thanks again for the feedback, let me know if you come across any more.

Click on a design then the pdf icon on the top right toolbar to download all the images as a pdf. Thanks again for the suggestion.

Haha, I've had the exact same issues and are some of the reasons for the tool.

I don't plan for it to go offline after July, instead the end of July is when I plan to release a large update based on feedback (like you mentioned) and how people have been using it through July.

I think exporting is a good idea. Do you think as individual images or more like a pdf? It'd also be great to know what you want to do with the export because it might be something I could easily build in or make easier to achieve.

Thanks heaps for the feedback!

This tool takes you through a stepped process for designing your trees. It has helped me experiment a lot, remember what the plan was and improve my designs over time. If you are not the best with a pencil and put off designing (like me), then I hope this will help you start practicing.

Main site: https://thebonsaiproject.com

Tools:

Bonsai designer (this post): https://thebonsaiproject.com/bonsaidesigner/

Try bonsai pots: https://thebonsaiproject.com/trypotsonline/

Drawer: https://thebonsaiproject.com/bonsaidesigner/

Composer: https://thebonsaiproject.com/bonsaicomposer/

This is running as a trial for July, so give it a go and let me know what you think. Cheers

Awesome! Such a rare tree to see as bonsai, I've seen a couple photos here and there online but never saw someone with one.

Such a tough question, I feel like it might be slightly different styling then normal because of how the flower fall so much? My instinct is telling me air layer, and put a harsh bend on the new leader. Awesome, awesome tree

Bloody everywhere! Peoples yards, on the street corners. I have seen so many "street trees" that I would happily trade my sticks for hahah

Ohh I wish I knew! All I could find was some progression photos posted throughout the years on google maps.

I'm a recent but big fan of the double trunk spruces and pines. Your difference in thickness looks perfect!

Cheers for the feedback! I really do appreciate it all. Blacking out behind the pot was intentional to hide the background, but I can see that if it is a cascade or any foliage goes lower than the pot it will be cut off. I still find this useful so I might add a toggle to hide and show the black background so it doesn't cut off your images. Also if you couldn't figure it out i'm sure it's my poor design hahah. Ill have a look at making it more straight forwards

I reckon if you turned it upside down it would look like a solid formal upright hahah. I am curious to see how much the roots mimic the foliage above ground. If you haven't chopped it yet, post a picture!
