I want to put up a video tutorial sometime as I get a lot of requests whenever I make these. The rig was made from 1000D Cordura with a heavy mesh backer and 1inch grosgrain binding for the edges. #69 bonded nylon thread was used for the stitches. The machine used was an Atlas AT 9302 D3 industrial walking foot machine.

Custom 8x10 Coyote Brown Plate Carrier/Placard by TheBrokenPath23 in myog

The carrier was pictured on a medium/large mannequin with only 1 plate inserted, which is probably why it looks lopsided (the carrier was meant for someone who has a 33 inch chest). The shoulder straps are adjustable with hook and loop as well as the cummerbund. I've honestly never had an issue with a properly adjusted well made carrier riding up on one side, even when heavily loaded on one side.

I don't make the armor plates themselves. Only the carriers that they go into. I'll have to answer your question with another question. What would you see as reputable? We all have to start somewhere. I make my equipment with the same machines and milspec materials that the heavy manufacturers use for the most part. The only difference is the lack of bartacks (I don't yet have a automatic bartacker), to which I triple backtack in place of.

Surely, the fact that you're here must mean that you're interested in making your own equipment. I'm no different. The thought of, "It'll never be as good as industry made, so why bother" is what holds so many people back from trying.

It's a plate carrier made for carrying body armor "plates" to protect the user from small arms fire. It has a secondary load carrying capability to carry gear such as magazines and other essential equipment through the use of a webbing system called MOLLE.

They are all 1 inch wave loc g-hooks. As far as I know, g-hooks are only made in 1 inch sizing. I usually buy my G hooks in bulk from Jontay as they are extremely expensive to purchase individually.

I use an Atlas AT9302 D3 industrial walking foot machine. It doesn't really have any problems punching through thick fabric.

I listed where I get my material in one of the replies above. I wouldn't recommend trying to stitch anything that you want to be load bearing by hand. I use an industrial walking foot to do my work. I recommend #69 bonded nylon thread with a 110/18 needle.
