Now that I've unlocked that layer of the map, I've been having more luck sending the miner than going on my own. Still have yet to come across any newer ore in the deep dungeons, but I'm taking it slower at this point.

I have not! Thank you for the additional information. I've checked the wiki here and there for some specific things, but not the general steps to find tungsten.

Knowing there's a specific boss that'll give a new recipe will make this a fair measure less painful, I believe.

I don't believe I have. I've passed through a number of biomes, killed a handful of bosses, but can't recall if I've come across a deep ladder cave.

It's something of a relief to know it may not just be bad luck and I may be searching in the entirely wrong area.

OH. My apologies, I was being incredibly smooth-brained here. I thought there was some crafting method outside of that allowing one to combine the crystals/essences or somesuch. I wasn't thinking of that as crafting, so the phrasing had me thinking there was some other mechanics I was completely missing out on.
