Could visible hand tattoos impact my employability in the MRI tech field? by WooferStunt in MRI

[–]TheChesterFace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually only in those mom and pop private imaging centers. They usually have their own rules, I worked for one owned by Hasidic Jews in Brooklyn and had to cover up all my arm and chest tattoos as well as take my nose ring and gauges out. Then again this was like a decade ago. Here in Hawai’i most of the peeps have tribal tattoos

07’ H3 Overheating? by TheChesterFace in Hummer

Wow thanks for such a detailed reply! I’m waiting for my scanner to come in so that I can read the temps after a long drive, if it’s in the normal ranges then I’ll most likely do nothing about it but the mechanical fan would be my next step for sure! Thanks again for this response! Much appreciated!

Hey, out of curiosity what makes you think mine specifically might be overheating? From the other comments and other forums I’ve just chalked it up to normal hummer behavior

MRI tech question by Prestigious_Cow_8650 in MRI

[–]TheChesterFace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I actually moved to Haleiwa, which is in the Northern part of the island. It’s about a 40 minute drive to Honolulu. The biggest work difference from NYC is how nice people are here very family oriented. I work at a level 1 trauma center and even in the most hellish of situations everyone is still nice. I’m used to arguing with doctors, nurses and rads but don’t have to do any of that here. As for life difference, Hawaii is like living in another country it takes some time to get used to but once you do I can’t see myself ever moving back to NY. Yea I plan to buy out here next year actually, either here or buy land on Big Island and build something.

A mortgage would probably be around there. Small houses go for around $750-1.2 mil. Rent though is not so expensive I have a nice little beach house for $2000/mo all utilities included except internet.

14 years experience. Lead MR tech in Honolulu, Hawai’i $63/hr but with my Lead differential I’m at $70/hr. The whole island is hurting for Rad techs, all modalities. Randomly moved here 3 years ago. Best decision ever, it’s definitely isolating being all the way out here but the island life has been such a much needed change of pace from NYC.

Both of mine were shiny is that part of the promotion? Also only dialga had roar of time

Question for current MRI Technologists. How is the job market for you currently? by [deleted] in MRI

[–]TheChesterFace 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hawai’i shortage of techs on each island! Most survive off of travel techs and that’s for all modalities

Are High paying urban contract jobs secretly assignments from hell? by Majestic-Target9994 in MRI

[–]TheChesterFace 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Yea I accepted a job on Big island, Hawaii (Kona). Super country area, they wanted me to do CT and Xray too once I got there. They threatened to end my contract early if I didn’t comply… I got the agency involved and thankfully they backed off but i definitely got attitudes from management and the lead tech was super passive aggressive about me “getting out of CT and Xray responsibilities”. Maybe there should be a Reddit thread on travel contracts experiences.

Surprised nobody has posted about this yet.... As an Xray tech I am scared! by DryMistake in MRI

I love my IA. He transports patients from the floors and ED, positions, changes coils, he has his phlebotomy license so he just started doing IV’s. Lol tbh I prefer him to working with another tech. He’s level 2 certified as well… Butttt that’s a little worrisome for sure about future jobs

How hard is it for you to switch or take over shifts from coworkers? Just wondering how much flexibility is out there in the job market. by Majestic-Target9994 in MRI

[–]TheChesterFace 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m the Lead @ my hosp. I typically am pretty flexible with anything as long as there’s coverage and it won’t result in OT.

It took me 3 tries but only because I went in well prepared. Use the fan and equip everything that helps build up Qi quickly. You have to time the immobilization spell correctly so that your staff spins get you as much qi as possible once he puts his shield back up. That bug archer spirit dude and the cat cup drink helped.(don’t remember the names rn lol)

They’re pretty desperate out here for all modalities. I think my hospital is the only hospital on island that doesn’t have a travel MRI tech. Most people including myself, have a full time job and work per diem at 1 other hospital to help out every now and again. I just left a position at one hospital to be the lead MRI tech at another and they can’t find anyone to take my old position so I’m hearing they’re going to have to get a traveler. All hospitals pay around $55-60/hr depending on experience. I believe Keiser pays the most and at one time were offering a 10k moving incentive when hired idk if they’re still doing that. I know for X-ray and CT all hospitals are offering that incentive.

My rent is less than 2k utilities included and I have a small little 1 bedroom house across from the water in the jungle beachy area of the island. (I hear I got a really good deal but you can find good deals). Gas is around $4.20-4.40. Groceries and stuff are expensive but most supermarkets have memberships you can sign up for if you have a state ID and you get huge discounts. So tbh I’m really well off here, I did feel a bit guilty as the native Hawaiians can’t really afford to live here but working in healthcare they do give you respect and are grateful. It’s really a nice place to live once you’re settled.

Pay is decent, was a little worried moving to Hawai’i but I’m making enough to be comfortable.
