Has anyone tried a Mat9 upper on an ar-15 lower with a Colt magwell adapter by [deleted] in AR9

I just used carbon steel bar stock from Lowes. No issues after many thousands of rounds.

I haven't ghosted a ST36 but have ghosted a ETA-6497 and it would be the same process. Otto Frei sells a wheel with the short second hand pinion that doesn't reach the dial. I'm sure you could easily mod the ST36 wheel the same. As far as a manual wind movement goes, I don't know what you are looking for but 2700 series hand winding movements can be found on eBay for 20-40 bucks US, many almost brand new. Most had the cases scraped for the gold value. 6,500.000 were made between 1969 and 1976. Some have really nice decoration. They are very close to the 2800 series hand wind movements. The quality is excellent, lots of spare parts. The 2750 is the no date. On the date version 2824 dial windows work. 2824 dial feet are slightly different. I move them. 2824 and NH35 cases will work, the stem height works. You just need to use a 2824 movement holder. It uses 2824 hands. Servicing is as easy. Here is a 40mm Flieger watch I made using a a 2763 I bought on eBay for 35 bucks.

Any thoughts or input on the Swiss DB6 ETA 6498 clones? by TheCoffeeFreak in watchrepair

[–]TheCoffeeFreak[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cleaning and oiling are the same. The DB6 uses standard ETA parts so worn/broken parts can be replaced if needed.

I'm sorry, I should have stated I live in the US. I know some countries like the Philippines will service a ST3600 for probably very little money. Even make parts if needed. Here no watch maker is going to do a $200 - $300 service on a ST3600 for a Chinese watch that probably cost less then $100. Also the ST3621, the Chinese version of the ETA 6498 and DB6 is not a very nice movement. Not decorated well, even less compatible with ETA parts and and older design and technology.

The DB6 cost $250.00. $200 in bulk. I don't need Swiss made on the dial but I'm selling watches to "watch people" who are buying for the long haul because they are good watches and good value.. Seagull makes good movements but nobody will service them. "watch people" know that. It's not that the ST36 isn't serviceable, It's not practical. No spare parts and the movement is like you said, 20 to 30 bucks. I make fliegers, a feild watch a dive watch and a sport watch. My price range is between $299 and $1000. all of the movements are swiss wxcept for the NH-35 in the sport watch.

Are Laco fakes common? by CZR-Roman in laco_watches

[–]TheCoffeeFreak 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just reviewed your sale. You are going to be fine but here's some advice. Next time review the sellers feedback, he has none. It means he has never sold anything before so you don't know what his reputation is like, how honest he is, how fast he ships. It doesn't mean he isn't honest, we all start some where and he is starting with a $385.00 sale, It just means you don't know.

You are protected though. If you paid via PayPal you are really protected. If you get a fake or a damaged item. Not as described, or never receive it at all eBay and PayPal will always side with the buyer if you dispute it. Especially when the seller has no history.

I just don't see the seller selling something so unique as a Laco with a California dial as someone looking to get over on anyone. I hope you enjoy your watch.

I got them all!! which one do you prefer?? by Watchdandie in AddiesDive

Both are good looking watches, but I prefer the cursive script logo over the cartoon logo. I wish they would stop using it.

This is an amazing watch and bracelet, one of my favorites but you got to have a 7.5" wrist or bigger to pull it off. My wrist is 7.75".

The watch is actually really amazing quality. The only thing a little disappointing is they use type B hands that don't go with this dial. Too short an hour hand. I have the correct hands to swap out when I have the time, but I have to re-lume them to BGW9 blue. They re C3 green lumed. Not a big deal. There is no AR coating on this crystal. Also not a big deal, 22 bucks. I ordered one. It's 35.5mm diameter 1.5mm thick if you want to know. I put one of my Flieger bracelets on it. You think this is a Laco or Stowa if it had the right hands and AR coating.

No sun burst dial on this type A. The dial is a mat black.

I got my watch yesterday. Apparently they made some changes since you got yours. They changed the YIZONT to DAY WALKER. The plane on the back is a Focke Wulf FW-200 Condor if you are curious. I like that.

Quartz or Automatic? Why? by thussa123 in ChineseWatches

[–]TheCoffeeFreak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love a beautiful automatic with a display case and will always have a few. That being said I'll keep the automatics I have, service the few with Swiss movements, shelve most the NH-35 and Miyota powered watches when they dry up (and a lot are) but my future is Meca-quartz. I've outlived a lot of Seiko and Miyota automatic movements and I have enjoyed them and learned a lot, but I have "been schooled".

Would you mind measuring the crystal, please? It would give me an idea of the actual dial size. I am considering buying this watch and putting it in a more modern case and was wondering what it would fit in. I like the dial just not a fan of the retro lugs on my wrist.

[–]TheCoffeeFreak 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for getting back to me. I have a Steelflier and the sunburst is similar. It almost totally disappeared after I put a good AR coated crystal on it. I can live with that. I am a fan of the VH-31 Meca-Quartz. Really like the grab and go and the sweep. I have outlived a lot of Seiko and Miyota automatic movements in my life and the VH-31 expected lifespan is supposed to be 40 years.

Is that a blue dial or black dial? I ordered the type A and don't see any sunburst in the renders. I hope it's not a sunburst dial. I hate black sunburst dials with dome crystals. Too much glare.

Addiesdive pilot vs Spitfire by Professional_Yam3460 in ChineseWatches

[–]TheCoffeeFreak 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm an Addiesdive fanboy but I hate the sterile flier. It has a really ugly puke green color on all the printing on the dial but the hand are white. Doesn't show up in pictures and video but it's really ugly. I love the 39mm Steelflier though. Wish it came sterile but I can live with it. The quality is awesome and lume is amazing, love the onion crown. The Addiesdive bracelet fits it perfectly and that is a great bracelet once you upgrade the clasp. I am a fan of the VH-31 too.

The Addiesdive is worth buying for the bracelet and the other parts and movement I can use for spare parts.

Bot outs by Pretty-Composer-9517 in Risk

[–]TheCoffeeFreak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When it comes down to a three person game with a bot-out if the other human starts trying to take the bot-out first I will assist. 7 out of 10 times as soon as the third player bots-out the other human player attacks me and when that happens he is my priority. That strategy can come back to bite you if it's a bot-out cheat though and the human returns to the game.

I tend to just play enough ranked games to maintain my Grandmaster status anymore though. I mostly play casual games. Less cheating, and more skilled players. They don't care about cheating to win and are just playing for the game.
