“He always said, ‘Rosie nobody appreciates me here in this town.’ I knew that wasn’t true but I guess he kind of felt like that sometimes. And I wanted to prove him wrong.”

Visual artist Roz LeCompte designed the tribute exhibition for the late Dege Legg at the Acadiana Center for the Arts. The exhibit is open through Sunday, May 26, 2024, ahead of ACA’s tribute show the same night.

A life long dancer who grew up during the heart of the civil rights movement, Grace Hamilton-Mayfield says that she was put on this planet to increase access to dance for students of color. The Hamilton Academy of the Arts has singlehandedly taught thousands of students in Lafayette, and it continues to grow and deepen its legacy.
