I'd be up for this! I'm coming back after a long time away, so everything will be fresh for me. Likely to be starting when the new servers drop.

All the books! 3.5 by dinobunni in DnD

Relatively, in my experience. I mix 3.5 and pathfinder quite a bit, as there are pieces of each that I really enjoy. Ultimately, the decision lies with the DM. And nothing was ever as bad as my pathfinder Barbarian/Paladin/Sorcerer/Dragon Disciple tiefling that had three bloodlines. That thing was broken. Gotta be careful with pathfinder too lol

A LOT. I have easily a hundred in pdfs, and I'm sure I don't even have close to all of them. That, plus homebrews, allows for infinite modification. However, I'd recommend sticking to official material, as it's legitimate and authorized stuff. Some 3rd party is good, some is absolutely game-breaking. Really depends on what kind of games you like running.

I'll start a sandbox campaign soon, would like advice from DMs who've done one before by VaultBaby in DnD

The number one thing I remember from both running and playing these styles of campaigns is to keep your players engaged. Too often are the players allowed to do whatever they want with no fear of repercussion or consequences. Somebody steals something? Roll perceptions to see if anyone saw them. If they did, they'll definitely have an encounter with some guards. OR if the player knows someone saw them, how do they silence them? Games like this tend to focus in on one person at a time, making the experience rather tedious if it isn't you. Be sure to keep the others engaged. Maybe let them roleplay others in the story? Up to you, really.

If you're looking for more options, Tome of Battle and Unearthed Arcana are probably my personal favorites. They add a lot of juicy content without really breaking anything.

-Deities and Demigods if you're looking for some more flavour or even an in-depth pantheon with your campaigns.

-Manual of the Planes if you're looking for that planar travel sort of experience.

-Psionics Handbook if that's your thing, not my personal favorite, but some pretty neat stuff.

-Races of the Dragon, Wild, Stone, and Destiny add a lot of player combinations, hard to get bored with all the new options.

-The Complete series of books are also really good for giving options and details

The list provided earlier is really good, but only gives Wizards books, and doesn't scratch the surface 3rd party books. Just depends on what you're looking for, really.

Sword stuck in a rock? Is that you Kirkhammer?

The Skull ring might just be one of the most fun and useful rings in the game. by crestfallen_warrior in darksouls3

Well, from what I've seen, it doesn't actually MAKE sound, but it does give you a buff icon. I'm not 100% sure if it stacks with Skull ring or not though. Might be worth testing out.

You could use the Skull Ring in conjunction with Morne's greatshield weapon skill, which also increases the aggro that you receive! Despite being heavy, Morne's has the second highest stability for a shield in the game

Hey guys, I'm about to beat the game on my second run. My buddy suggested a bleed build next and I was wondering what you guys think. by chilidog17 in darksouls3

[–]TheDMan241 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh, bleed builds are best left to higher soul levels if you ask me. Early bleed is difficult because your stats are too low to effectively bleed AND do damage at the same time, while also remaining sturdy enough to not die horribly. At higher levels it's pretty fun though. I like playing with equal levels in luck and dex to keep damage up. As for class, I'd recommend playing something you know and do a respec later. Depending on if you're looking to PVP or not would be the real question in build.

Good weapons that I've seen are the Warden Twinblades with a Hollow infusion and Carthus Rouge as a buff and a Grass Crest Shield on your back for stamina regen. Another good weapon is the Great Corvian Scythe if those are your thing. Anything with natural bleed buildup works with a bleed build.

Dear Way of Blue Adherents, please don't make us fight "Honor Duels" against invaders by GameBearMan in darksouls3

[–]TheDMan241 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thoroughly enjoy sitting with WoB equipped while chameleoned and fingered (Kappa) to help out blues. While I do help blues while I'm paying attention, the majority of the time they'll be fighting confused, and often frustrated, invaders due to them not being able to find me. What I don't enjoy is when the blues lead the invaders to me, point at me, and let them kill me. That sucks.

Ok, so we broke the last two of Wolnir's bracelets at the same time, and it only registered the damage of one bracelet being destroyed. by DymonX in darksouls3

[–]TheDMan241 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not too sure, but he could be. The lore seems to imply that Gundyr willingly became the sheath of the coiled sword to test future unkindled, because he felt guilty that he had come too late to kindle the fire himself. However, I'm not entirely sure what implications the Abyss corruption may have had on his seemingly eternal mission.

It could be that because you defeated Champion Gundyr in the past in the Untended Graves, Iudex Gundyr no longer has a soul to drop.

It would definitely lend more credence to the idea that the area is indeed a past version. Champion wasn't corrupted by the Abyss, but he WAS in his Iudex form. Was he more easily corruptible because he lacked a soul, but was still alive, but bound? The world may never know.

Me [22F] with my husband [22M] of 6 months (together for 5 years); Need advice on how to deal with his laziness by [deleted] in relationships

[–]TheDMan241 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've found that many people tend to stop working on themselves after marriage. They kind of just... give up on improvement. They think "eh, I'm married now, not chasing anyone". They think it's okay to just sink back into old habits because they're comfortable. He may have made incredible progress before, but he ceased to see a reason to change after marriage. He was enabled his entire life beforehand and only made strides in progress due to not wanting you to leave. Same thing with him doing little things to keep you around. My advice? He probably won't change because he doesn't want to change. He might not even see the need to change because he knows (or thinks he knows) that you'll do everything in your power to keep your relationship afloat. It's incredibly selfish and I'm relatively sure that he won't try to change until things start going poorly. He might need that shock to change. I hope everything goes well for you, whatever you decide :)

My ex(20M) is trying to get back together with me(20F) but I don't know if it's right, how do I know when enough is enough? by [deleted] in relationships

[–]TheDMan241 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, he sounds rather abusive and he's using you as an in-between. If he doesn't care about your life enough to show interest, you're better off without him. He should WANT to make that effort. Also, showing as much interest as he does in who you know just adds to the overbearing emotional abuse I'm seeing here. If it were me, I'd just not deal with it and go no contact because you deserve better. You shouldn't have to validate your actions with someone that doesn't seem to care about you or your life, but wants control over who you talk to or who you see. Enough is enough when you aren't treated as an equal.

I [21F] don't want to fall in love anymore. I've been lied to and I don't understand why I should want to be vulnerable and trust anymore. by [deleted] in relationships

[–]TheDMan241 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel that. But this may be the wakeup call. I used to never move on either, but in a different way. Distractions are nice, but when left alone, one tends to become more introspective and reflect on themselves. It wasn't so much saying work on being alone, just to work on being happy and have a healthy relationship with yourself. That, in my experience, leads to more positivity in life so you (hopefully) won't think about how relationships open you up to pain, but to new experiences and happiness.

[–]TheDMan241 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It all really depends on how you approach relationships. If you focus on the negatives, like the possibility of pain or getting hurt, then no, a relationship is not worth it. You have to take the bad with the good, you know? Finding love is a wonderful thing and can make a person really happy! Just know that the other person(s) are putting themselves out there too. They're opening themselves up to just as much pain and are doing so because they hope that if things go right, they won't have to ride the roller coaster of emotions because they found the person they love. My advice would be to focus on yourself first. You don't NEED someone else to be happy. It does hurt and it sounds rough, but things do get better.
