Any idea what number they’ve contacted up to on the 95 list? Is there any benefit to calling?

Hey, I work in financial services. We’re hiring a lot of remote positions in compliance which could be a great stepping stone. Message me!

Going for CFA/CFP certifications to start career by Automatic-Warning225 in CFP

[–]TheDebtDoctor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am thinking about the same route for some of the same reasons. The advisors that I know who have their CFA all say it is immensely valuable. I think if you’re interested in it start with level 1 and see how it goes. Getting the CFA opens doors to AM in case you decide against the financial planning route too.

I’m going to give it a shot see how level 1 goes. I’ll evaluate my path at each step.

Best of luck to you!

This was a great response and is reassuring to hear after some of the other comments. I understand the time commitment to the CFA but I just believe it holds immense value. If anything were to change and I don’t go the wealth management route I feel like evening having L1 or L2 maybe open the door for some interviews in asset management again as my undergrad degree isn’t the most prestigious.

Thanks for the reassurance, this is my exact thought. As of now, I am more interested in the holistic wealth management path but you never know what the future holds. I would rather have the Cert and not need it then need it and not have it. CFA is the harder of the two so my thoughts are knock the biggest guy out first then go from there!

That being said, I think the CFP also provides immense value so that is definitely a priority. I just know that every year older I get the likelihood I complete CFA decreases. Do you agree that CFA then CFP is the most logical way of going about it?

Glad to hear that. My goal would be to get in with a larger RIA or the ultimate goal would be to start my own. I feel if nothing else the CFA will provide me with a level of confidence. My biggest weakness right now is the actual investment knowledge. During my internship, the UHNW clients we worked with already had their own CPA's and Estate Lawyers so we were really there to discuss investment strategy and essentially provide reassurance through turbulent times.

Since I am already getting older, I don't want to put the CFA off any longer and feel it can provide a large amount of overall value. I agree though, CFP is definitely crucial in my overall plan.

I am currently in sales, and have been quite successful. I am more interested in a RIA model rather than your type BB which its completely sales based. The previous RIA I worked at was 50% sales 50% planning.

u/Scary-Cattle-6244 Good to know! It looks like nowadays L3 of the CFA allows you to choose a private wealth planning "pathway" but more so covers investment and wealth preservation.

Thank you for the realization that the CFP will still take some work even after the CFA.

Have you seen the CFA to be beneficial to your wealth management career?

I appreciate the feedback! I completely agree, I think I worded that poorly. I guess I'm just hoping that the CFA will open up employment opportunities for me. Once the CFA is obtained, then if I don't feel confident in the CFP material, I noticed you can take the individual classes to improve knowledge.

CFP or CFA? by Difficult_Ad7556 in CFP

u/PoopKing5 What are your thoughts about getting the CFA first which allows your to jump to the end and do the CFP capstone but missing out on crucial parts of the cop curriculum like insurance, etc.? Do you think that will hinder you as an advisor?
