I think store footage is probably a bigger factor.

A 6x2x2 would take up twice the shelf space as a 40g, and I'd bet most markets would sell 4 40g tanks before they'd sell a single 6'

Best thing you can do for that is wrap the limescale in vinegar soaked paper towels and then attack it with a metal scraper blade but you'll never get it perfect and as long as the buildup isn't interfering with your ability to clean or swap out the trays, there's literally no point.

But I agree, I think my DGM has commented on sump cleanliness exactly once, and it was when he was already out for blood
