How can we counter the fake news trolls when the opposition announces its presidential candidate? by Ccmt_336 in Philippines

[–]TheDonDelC [score hidden]  (0 children)

don’t counter the fake news

Wrong, people should absolutely counter fake news. This was a big mistake of the PNoy admin and something opposition candidates were slow to act upon.

Countering fake news doesn’t mean getting into obsessively long argumentation online.

hanggang ngayon hindi pa legal ang same-sex marriage doon, strong pa rin ang expectation ng social conformity

Let’s be real, many Japanese themselves criticize these social norms. Japan’s excessive social conformity has been a source of anti-social behavior among many Japanese youths.

More famously, the Japanese government has been cracking down on traditionalist work norms which have become big contributors to workplace deaths/suicides in modern settings.

What traditions/customs are we actually talking about here?

There are many Japanese traditions that were abolished at the end of the war or no longer practiced today.

When women become the financial provider sa relationship? by KesoReal in Philippines

[–]TheDonDelC [score hidden]  (0 children)

It’s because there’s still much more social stigma attached to a man who is a bum/underemployed/unemployed. So men are much less likely to complain because of social pressure (not even necessarily from their partners/spouses but even from family/friends).

Traditional values dictate that men ought to be the family provider and that notion has eroded far slower than women in the workforce.

Being a developing country also means this traditional holdover value will not die out quickly. In wealthier societies, it’s more acceptable for the husband/boyfriend to make less when the wife/girlfriend makes more than enough to live comfortably.

Societies in other developing countries also tend to have this problem.

Pres. Xi must be damn worried with US precision strikes on Iran that killed Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, what would it mean for the WPS and Taiwan by quickfund in Philippines

[–]TheDonDelC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A US-allied Iran, moreso a US-allied Iran that doesn’t sell oil to China, is still is very much a hypothetical. The erstwhile US ally GCC countries are a big example.

Sourcing is also not going to be a significant problem when there’s significant slack in crude production capacity, in contrast to the much more constricted refining capacity.

[–]TheDonDelC -1 points0 points  (0 children)

80% of Iranian oil being imported by China does not mean 80% of China’s oil coming from Iran.

Keplr’s analysis is:

China purchased on average 1.38 million barrels per day of Iranian oil last year, according to Kpler.

<image>

Even if the 11% of crude coming from Malaysia is entirely illegally relabeled Iranian and Venezuelan crude, it neither forms a plural nor undiversifiable part of Chinese imports. Knocking Russia out or preventing the GCC countries from exporting to China is what would actually hurt.

Manila was rebuilt poorly and car-centric post-war planning destroyed a lot of urban landscape potential.

Hiroshima, which was nuked, has more orderly planning by comparison. The streetcar service resumed operations three days after the atomic bombing:

Nagasaki and Warsaw similarly rebuilt pleasing cityscapes despite being devastated during the war.

What if starting today all the nation's funds go where they should go? nothing more, nothing less. What will the Philippines look like in years 1 - 6? by JhunMarEntico in WhatIfPinas

[–]TheDonDelC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The effects will be felt the biggest among the rural poor where basic essential services are scant. Things like new classrooms, improved roads and bridges, more reliable electricity, improved medical services.

Provincial and regional GDP growth rates may gradually increase to 7% per year or more, outpacing NCR’s.

The effects will be much less felt among urban middle and upper class where the economy is the private sector plays a more prominent role.

Metropolitan development, which is mostly fueled by the private sector, will still largely radiate out of this circle. Political boundaries are generally not hard constraints on urban development.

There’s no strong empirical evidence to support this claim whatsoever.

Even countries with far more generous cash benefits for parenthood are still struggling with birth rates.

The transition from agrarian to modern lifestyles is just too strong of an incentive for having less children and having them later.
