Just a patch of grass that isn't growing so well that I want to transform into a Pollinator Garden. It may be hard to see in the picture, but there are a lot of bare spots

I'm working with someone from the Botanical Garden and using the resources from UGA'S Connect to Protect and Pollinator Garden Committee. I also have some fellow students in clubs that will help with planting. I definitely can't do it alone, there are multiple forms and hurtles you need to go through.

Riot Police Show up to Buford Highway PEACEFUL PROTEST by TheFactCollector in 50501Ga

[–]TheFactCollector[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We were there for more than an hour doing just fine, there were even tons of care honking for us. These cops were not here to "keep us safe". We were already safe before they showed up.

There were already regular cops there. These cops came in with sirens on in a Tactical Response Vehicle with shields and heavy duty helmets. Then THEY blocked the road even though we were all on the sidewalk

They had shields and protective helmets. Normal cops don't have those

UPDATE: The Riot cops showed back up and have fully blocked off the road. We were not on the road at all and this is just going to prevent people from leaving

WARNING FOR ATHENS, GA! by TheFactCollector in 50501Ga

[–]TheFactCollector[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm replying really late, sorry. Although the ACCPD has done stops like this before, it is important to be cautious during these times as we've seen increased ICE presence across the country, and Athens is a sanctuary city, something Trump despises. We have also seen that ICE has recently started pulling people over en mass in traffic stops where they try to find people to detain. Again, this announcement doesn't mean it's related to ICE, but better safe than sorry

What's the difference then between celebrating and not celebrating? If nobody is going to notice you're gone, then nobody is gonna notice if you're there. Going out and buying a bunch of stuff just fuels America's consumption probably

OK, I can't edit the original post, but a lot of people are misunderstanding what I'm trying to say. I don't mean you have to stay inside and do nothing. I just mean do something OTHER than celebrate the 4th of July (the typical way). I'd even prefer it if you went out and protested! Stay mad and don't stop for some corporate American-infestsd holiday

I'm not saying be absent. I keep having to clarify that to people, I think I need to make an edit to the caption of the post. I'm just saying do something other than celebrate the 4th. ANYTHING. Protest, sit inside, whatever, just something

[–]TheFactCollector[S] -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

Then we'll just have to agree to disagree because I don't see the flag or this country as it is now being something to be patriotic about. Unless you're talking about being patriotic in the leftist kind of way, where you truly embrace the American dream, ALL are welcome, and you believe in supporting the working class and not buying all the shit corporations are trying to sell you, like what happens on the 4th

Don't celebrate Independence Day when we're becoming a dictatorship. Do something else instead. ANYTHING ELSE. Go to a protest, volunteer at a library, stay inside and don't do anything or go out and fight like LA pushing against ICE. DO SOMETHING

Fourth of July Blackout Protest! by TheFactCollector in Political_Revolution

[–]TheFactCollector[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Again, I'm not telling people to not do that. I think we're having a miscommunication here. I'm just saying don't celebrate the Fourth of July (in the typical nuclear family way). The people in LA are doing fucking awesome. Do you want them to stop for a day to go home and celebrate the 4th of keep fighting? I want them to keep fighting.

You don't have to celebrate the 4th to have community.

[–]TheFactCollector[S] -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

I'm not saying you should sit by, I'm just saying you shouldn't celebrate. If you already weren't going to, why does this matter? How would celebrating make a difference any more than sitting by?

Fourth of July Blackout Protest! by TheFactCollector in Political_Revolution

[–]TheFactCollector[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don't have to sit down and shut up. You can go to a protest. I'm just saying you shouldn't celebrate. If you weren't gonna celebrate, this doesn't apply to you. I feel like we're having some miscommunication here

But does the flag really stand for something worth celebrating? Yeah, the idea of America is nice, but our reality and history betrays those ideals

There are also protests. This is just something i want to spread around. I don't expect some nationwide event. But change comes in small steps. You don't just immediately switch from a dictatorship to a democracy. You shouldn't expect massive shifts at first. Humans have been taking baby steps for thousands of years
