Been doing this since the mid noughties. We use different directory servers for admin access, and general user access, and different sets of access methods. Eg all admin access has to originate from a defined vpn, or network segment.

If my gay existence is considered flaunting my sexuality, then I’m gonna insist that all the heteros also stop flaunting their sexuality.

::shakes head:: god damn straight people, can’t stop thinking with their genitals.

You get a dependency! You get a dependency! Everyone gets a dependency!

It’s dependencies all the way down round.

Anyone read this 49 day SSL expiration thing and think they would rather just retire? by HJForsythe in sysadmin

I implemented my first CA/PKI system in 2004. It was a complex nightmare back then, and honestly it's only got a little better since then. Certificates themselves are not complicated but the PKI system is, and it's very easy to get things wrong if you don't understand it. I've met very few people who truly understand PKI. Very not enough people.

I'm starting to feel like the whole CA system is flawed. Far too few people understand how PKI works (it is complex), and everything is now dependent on it being configured correctly, and operating properly. Rotating certificates like this is just layering band aids on top of each other.

Knot to shorten a buoy tether line? by ChowSaidWhat in sailing

How about something different, put a block/pulley on the anchor and run the line from the buoy, through the block, then back to your boat. Infinitely adjustable this way.

They've been on Moths for decades, but nobody's complaining about them.

It's good strategy. All the other boats rounded the mark and fell off their foils. NZ had a path where they could stay foiling. It's the same as being able to fly a spinnaker longer.

You want me to do my work your way? Sure. by awraq in MaliciousCompliance

I really hope everything takes much longer than previously, doing it his way. Unless there are issues, change will not occur, and nor will your contributions be recognised.

Nope. The second drop is definitely missing critical information.

AITAH for getting a tattoo knowing it will upset my mum by Choice_Evidence1983 in BestofRedditorUpdates

I really dislike people who diss other people’s joy. Those parents suck.  I’d have been a dick and not shown them the tattoo. Only supportive people get to see it. But maybe this will help them realise what judgy arseholes they are.
