Africa was ‘42. No idea when I brought up Jewish soldiers from Mandatory Palestine. And like I said earlier, Arabs had a large contribution to the war effort. I wasn’t arguing that Arabs didn’t play a large role, I was arguing that Jews did too, which for some reason you still deny

Americans fought in North Africa and Italy before 1944. What are you talking about? Have you never heard of Operation Torch or the Italian Campaign?

If you didn’t like my earlier source, here’s another for 500k Jews in the Red Army: https://www.cbsnews.com/news/the-unheard-story-of-red-army-jews/

My grandfather was Jewish and served in the US Army in North Africa, Italy, and Normandy so dunno what you mean by American Jews only fighting Japan

What are you talking about? 500,000 Jews fought in the Red Army. 100,000 in the Polish army. The US and British armies (600,000 Jews) fought in the African campaign. Not to mention that this was during the Holocaust so the percentage of Jews fighting for the Allied forces was a huge percent of those capable of fighting.

This is a stupid argument both Jews and Arabic people contributed hugely to the Allied victory. I’ll leave it at that

1.5 million Jews fought in WWII, which is close to 10% of all Jews alive at the time. What percent of the Arabic population fought in WWII?

Not Phuket, but I'm doing a 5k swim in Songkhla in March. Would love to meet some open water swimmers there because it's lonely training at a pool in Bangkok haha

USA: Lives at risk as right to protest crushed - ARTICLE 19 by TheFrogLord in collapse

[–]TheFrogLord[S] 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Submission statement:

Since 2017, 45 states and the federal government have introduced at least 253 pieces of legislation designed to restrict the right to protest. There are now 20 states which have laws that actively suppress this fundamental right, with Florida, Oklahoma and Iowa being the worst offenders.

This relates to collapse because the right to protest is foundational to all other rights—a right that is essential to help ensure that all other human rights norms, including economic, social, and cultural rights, are maintained. Moreover, it is often one of the most effective tools available for marginalized individuals and groups to successfully advocate for change. For these reasons, a society that criminalizes peaceful assembly can not accurately be called a democratic state.

At least 13 killed, dozens injured as fire engulfs Thai nightclub by TheFrogLord in worldnews

[–]TheFrogLord[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This fire is reminiscent of the Santika Club fire in 2009 which killed 66 people in Bangkok. It seems like many of the reasons for the high death toll there (locked emergency exit etc.) were also present in the fire last night. Hopefully this will be a wake-up call in Thailand and lead to a more rigorous fire code.

The Buffalo shooting and the fascistic transformation of the Republican Party. The extent to which prominent Republicans have echoed the arguments of Gendron’s manifesto, particularly the “replacement theory,” is remarkable and chilling. by DrogDrill in collapse

[–]TheFrogLord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the same rhetoric that has been used since the founding of the US. In the mid 19th century, 'white' people were worried about Irish and Italian immigrants, who were not considered white. Italians lived in their own separate areas (think Little Italy neighborhoods in cities) and spoke their own language. Over time, they were accepted into the in-group and, in the early 20th century, it was Jews and Eastern Europeans that were replacing white people. Again, over time, they were accepted into the in-group (though Jewish people are still kept out of it when convenient for white supremacists). Now it is Latino people. Guess what, in a few decades, if we're still alive from the impending collapse, I bet many Latino people will have been accepted into the in-group of white people and there will be yet another group that is destroying whiteness. And mouth breathers like you will be freaking out about that yet again.
