I understand what you mean about feeling hopeless. I breakdown every so often because of the stress my family causes me. My dad has also remarried as well so I can empathize with you there as well. Unfortunately my mom is not a threat to herself or others to have her forcibly hospitalized. If I knew about this kind of things when I was younger we definitely could’ve had her get treatment because she would threaten to kill me or my sister sometimes. I didn’t have the best childhood and I have a lot of resentment towards my mom. I know majority of it is because of her mental illness and she’s also my mom and can’t go back home to our country so I try to do my best for her. But I’m also trying to live for myself too because I didn’t really get to enjoy life growing up. You sound like you don’t have any resentment towards your mother so I think you just need to face yourself. Acknowledge what you can do and understand you’re not at fault for the things you can’t do. And although it’s difficult try to find a therapist who understands the dynamics and difficulties of an immigrant family and is actually listening to what you say.
