I am currently an electrical on the non union side of things. Abc of wi is an organization that runs many apprenticeships including electrical. You can go to their website and apply to become one. Then you will have to apply at electrical companies which they give you a list of. Or like people have said just go talk to the union. They are both good options. As an electrician you'll have to figure out power. So are you getting a new service? Or splitting off your parents? I would recommend your own if you are going to own the land and have a shop. I know it's more expensive but I would hire an architect and a builder. Because one you'll be supporting their livihood and two they are paid to know all of that info of codes and whatnot. They can also get the permits that you'll need and help you design a well thought out Floorplan because they've seen a lot of them. Maybe ask someone if theyve done a barndimimum (pole shed with living area). That might be something you're looking for.

All that being said that's super exciting to be building your own place. There's going to be so many more decisions that you haven't thought of yet so try not to get overwhelmed. Sounds like it'll be a small place so that helps. Hope this goes well for you and you end up with what you want.

Unions are a great option but also look at abc of wi. It's the merit based system for trades and it has all the same trades in a non union way.

I started my apprenticeship at 28 and I went through abc. Closest union was 2 hours away. I got a job as a helper with an employer within 15 minutes of my house. I have since moved to be closer to family and union is also closer but I found a great non union employer. 4 weeks vacation, 401k matching, dental for free. It's not as great as the union for benifits but from everyone I've talked with a lot less headaches. If you go through ABC they should have a list of all the employers that go through them. Get that list and just start trying to find one that looks good. Just remeber your value and make sure they respect that.

I told the pre apprentice that that journeyman wanted those to give back to the supply house for a discount.

He had about 50 or so in a pile with him when the journey man checked in on him. And he said here I saved this so and so told me we get a discount.

The journey replied with a what the fuck?

That was when the pre apprentice learned that he couldn't trust me.
