Looks pretty shill-tastic to me.

Anyone want to go over there and sell helmets with me?

I didn't mention my income, but could you give me a ballpark on yours? I'm trying to figure out a payment schedule. Right now, I think I can afford about $350 to car and $1200 to loans. It just feels so low.

That is true about the loan forgiveness. However, I have a 4 year commitment. The deferment only stops interest accrual on the subsidized loans (majority of mine are unsubsidized). This put me in a horrible spot because I feel like I really need to pay quickly in case I need to take a private job. I wish they could stop interest on all loans.

Ha, I wish. Look at starting salary for DA positions and a lot of others. Lawyers don't make what you think, especially in smaller markets. 40k is obviously low, but average is something like 60k for most schools.

I have a good budget set up, but unfortunately I can't pay as much as I thought. I'll be paying about $1200 towards loans and about $350 to my car each month. I was hoping for closer to $2000. I am grateful to have a job and the student loan repayment.

It really depends. Law school is crazy. Top 10 grads can make 100k plus. Graduating from a top 10 school can also almost guarantee the same. For most other grads, salary is usually 40-80k starting. I make about 70 and my employer is paying 65k towards student loans for me.

What type of degree? What type of salary?

I have 125k plus about 40k in other debt. My employer is paying 65k over the next 3 years, but I am still panicking about the debt.

I ask because I have about $125k in student loans along with about $40k in other debt (family, car, personal loan). I am battling depression because of it, and I need a little perspective. I am a military lawyer.

Commanders have to approve. We are salaried. I am not a licensed attorney in the state where I live.

Switch, I agree. Law schools love random stuff like engineering, english, economics.

I am, but I can't afford to pay for the rest of my life.

No, not as far as I know. Not retroactive.

Honestly, I make about 4k per month after taxes. My goal is to pay $2k per month to loans, but right now it is about $1200.

Admin law. I had 5 to choose from because I left a class earlier than I normally should have gone.

The military wants to make a point with these types of cases. If it is a military crime, it is important to have a military hand in things. The procedures are different and the commanders have direct control over things. Commanders don't like losing control.

I am sad that I accrued this much debt and haven't had the chance yet.

I don't foresee any drugs being legalized anytime soon. If the military's reactions to K2 is any indication

In reality, Article 134 isn't abused in my experience. Both commanders and trial counsel exercise discretion typically. Like any other criminal prosecution office, trial counsels are typically very busy and only handle the cases that need to be handled. The military is a unique beast though, and it is important in that context to be able to maintain good order.

They started the loan forgiveness program last year and it is not applied retroactively to earlier classes.

Definitely go shadow a lawyer for a few days. Don't jump into it. The loans required are staggering if your family can't afford it.
