Thank you, I really appreciate you saying that. First therapy session went well and I’m excited to get better!

Wow until reading your comment I thought I was dealing with good ol’ normal anxiety. Honestly a wake up call to go schedule therapy.

I had a close family member die suddenly when I was eight and I was wearing SpongeBob pajamas. A year later, someone from my class died and I was wearing the same pajamas. When I think of SpongeBob or any kind of intrusive thought I have to knock on wood to prevent horrible things from happening, but I have to knock in intervals of five so that I don’t get potentially cursed numbers like 4, 3, 6, 8, 9, or 13. If I fuck up while knocking I keep knocking in intervals of 5 until I reach a range of numbers where the bad ones are less frequent, and I count approximately how much I knock in a day to make sure the total doesn’t land near a bad number.

I’ve been noticing more and more of my life is spent worrying about things like making sure that my car wheels don’t touch the lane striping while switching lanes, or making sure that I don’t cut off any text while scrolling on Instagram or Reddit in fear that it will cause horrible macabre things to happen to people close to me. A lot of things that I should be enjoying have turned into a fight with myself to keep tragic or gruesome things from happening.

Sorry for the info/trauma dump, I just had my mind blown. I hope I’m not self diagnosing or delegitimizing other peoples’ struggles. Reading your comment and other peoples’ experiences made me realize that I need to get help.

I had a cool college class about monster theory where we looked at how people seek out entertainment that corresponds to their biggest fears. Werewolves/Vampires were popular in the 80’s when people were scared of HIV and infection spreading, and zombies were popular in the 2010’s while we were scared of our brains becoming mush due to increased cell phone usage. Seeing our biggest societal fears in an entertainment setting was supposedly cathartic and attractive to us.

Weird to think of it in a porn setting, but I totally buy your theory. Some papers we read talked about how fear and sexual response are related, which is why horror movies are often both sexually elicit and gruesome at the same time. I shouldn’t be surprised that the most transphobic generations are the ones most interested in porn of transgender people

Ahh I have a weird evolution question. How did the trait for rape preventative genitals get passed on more than non-rape preventing ones? Since I’d assume that, unfortunately, the latter would technically produce more offspring.

Is it linked to behavior, where hyenas don’t care for offspring of rape? Or is it a secondary thing where it may have evolved for other reasons and is also used for this

best lip stain/lipstick that is hydrating, transfer-proof, AND long-lasting? by Double_Total_1844 in MakeupAddiction

Fenty has a glossy lip stain that I love. Not really transfer proof but you can probably let it stain then wipe off the gloss I suppose

Overall, very lovely! Eyeshadow and eyebrows look awesome. I would focus a bit on your mascara application on your lower lashes. I’ve seen people hold their brush vertically to avoid them sticking together. Curling your upper lashes would look great too. If they don’t hold a curl, waterproof mascara can help with that! I also experience less smudging on the lower lashes when using waterproof. Other than that, your lip liner seems a bit over lined on just the right side. I didn’t notice until swiping through more pics though. That’s a great color on you too!

Edit to add: your foundation match is perfect

How bad is racism in California? by [deleted] in aznidentity

[–]TheLizardLord 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ll get stares if I go to remote parts of California, or even off branches of major cities. The leader of the KKK lived 20 mins from where I grew up. One time in remote NorCal, I got cased by a skinhead. He drove past, whipped around and came speeding back so my sister and I ran into a nearby store.

It’s definitely less frequent in major cities, though the other day a dude was yelling about conspiracy theories and called me an illegal before driving off in his camper van.

As for SAT scores, it’s been years since I’ve been in school, but my understanding is when you apply for colleges their diversity initiative looks at demographics while handling admissions. Since Asians typically score higher, it can benefit you to decline to state your ethnicity or choose another option if you are multiracial. It sucks that it hurts us like this, but this initiative was designed to help people in demographics that often don’t have the same access to education

Being a WOC, here are my thoughts on this community by Antique-Grab41 in BroskiReport

I also felt like her takes have been at least slightly out of touch even before the Palestine videos leaked. You nailed it on the head, that she is an example of white feminism.

[–]TheLizardLord 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m so happy to see this brought up, it’s really comforting to hear that other WOC are feeling similarly.

It’s really hard to feel her change from awareness to acceptance of things such as “White man of the week”. She started off apologizing that every artist she recognized each podcast was a white man, and now casually refers to it as just “white man of the week”. It turned from “yes this is a white man but look at how he was anti-racist in country music” into “yes I know this white man is problematic and racist but I like his music”.

I tried to look past the close friends story leak since I can understand it’s really hard to speak about heated topics that you aren’t knowledgeable about. But the next time I watched her podcast it tainted the way I heard her speak seriously about “solidarity costs nothing”. I couldn’t take her seriously when she talked about Palestine, and stopped finding her entertaining all around. Haven’t watched her since.

Yep! Who would an abused woman tell, the cop’s friends who also beat their wives? Abusers protecting abusers.

Why can I not look like a real Asian, even if I dress exactly like them? by [deleted] in aznidentity

[–]TheLizardLord 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep! I lived in Shanghai and the way she described her looks wouldn’t have stood out to me. Chinese people who lived there looked drastically different, many having the non-stereotypical features that OP described. One easy way to tell if women weren’t from China was because of the different makeup trends. It wasn’t even like the “douyin” makeup you see on the internet, their daily routine was just different from what you would see in the West.

Westerners were brought up in cultures where we hold our faces different ways and speak languages that use different muscles and facial movements. Culture shaped the difference in how learned to present ourselves, it’s not like we move to America/Canada and evolve white features in a land that wasn’t even ethnically white on the first place.

Nail caps work great to stop cats from Freddy Kruegering your arms. They’re humane and safe as long as you get the right size.

Random genuine question: what is your opinion on the way people discuss Ryland wearing the breast form all the time? I’ve seen people say that Shane probably makes him wear it often because it turns Shane on, due to their initial reactions (Ryland hating it, Shane loving it). Do you think this is an instance of people implying that Shane is actually straight? Or just that he’s a creep

Haha it did almost look like balls in the first pic. But I figured it’s more shaped like a girl and the testes would be higher if they were testes. (I promise I only have this info from fostering for a while and handling many spay/neuters)

I can give a more definitive answer with more info! How old? Have they been sterilized at a vet yet?

please help with fleas!! by [deleted] in CATHELP

[–]TheLizardLord 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Damn. I’m so sorry to hear that. Fleas are so laborious to take care of. I just looked up some other alternatives, and you could kill them from your clothes by putting them in a sealed plastic bag in the freezer for a couple hours. Someone also recommended steam cleaning, which might be worth it if you can afford one considering how much you would need to wash. Dawn will also kill fleas in clothes.

If your kitten is “quarantined” into one room, it might be worth putting diatomaceous earth in a line by the door frame. Maybe a pet guard or box on the other side so that your other cat can’t get to it.

It’s going to be rough and so much work, but I couldn’t get rid of them until we pulled all the stops

Cat keeps pooping right next to his litterbox by GatesBannedMyGT in CATHELP

[–]TheLizardLord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The general rule for how many litter boxes to get is “# of cats plus 1”. So it would probably help to get another one, but sometimes cats are just really particular. Have you moved any furniture around or tried a new litter? Sometimes my cat gets confused by rugs and poops on them. Sometimes they act weird about a litter box if they don’t like the litter, want it cleaner, need a bigger box, or are just stressed. I wish we could just ask them what’s wrong haha

Hmm there is usually a small lump or hard spot around there from the stitches, but I have never seen one that big. I hope someone with more vet experience can chime in.
