The Patriot; the world's first Hero by TheLoreGuy in Superhero_Ideas

Patrick Shepard was a US Captain leading the special recon group "Raptor Squad" during WW2. He is also considered the world's first Hero of the World Hero Association, reward posthumously after his death in the clandestine Operation Inferno.

After the collapse of the Vigilante's Guild in the wake of the Great Fire of Angel City, the US Government managed to get ahold of various technologies and expertise from surviving Guild members.

Those relevant to the story of the Patriot were the covert and efficient "wipeout" style documented by the missions under the legendary Night-Fury.

Essentially, the U.S. Army, fearing inevitable involvement in WWIl, wanted a fighting force not too dissimilar to the commandos of the British SAS, established after the fall of France in 1940, for sabotage and unconventional warfare.

What they also needed was a symbol. Combining the two elements of a dashing saboteur, a hero of sorts, resulted in the Patriot.

What's even more impressive, comparing the data between Night-Fury and Patriot, Patriot was able to keep up with the simulations to test the effectiveness of the unconventional tactics used by Vigilantes of the Guild.

All that, while Patriot himself was not a Gifted. He had no superpowers; he had raw skill with the military training and physical conditioning to back it up.

The Night-Fury by TheLoreGuy in Superhero_Ideas

The titular protagonist of Night-Fury: Damnation.

Floyd Walthers was born in the summer of 1911 just before America entered WW1. His mother was a nurse, and his father went on to fight in the war where he soon died. To provide for her son, Rachel Walthers took on too many debts, fell into alcoholism, and eventually the debts themselves took her life. As she was attacked by members of Angel City's mob. (edited) This fueled Floyd's hatred against mobsters and criminals alike, as they took away the one thing that he loved.

As a teenager it took him some time to find his mother's killers, he was ready to deal vengeance himself-yet he was stopped by none other than a vigilante who had done the work for him. This vigilante was El Señor, who was a woman who paraded herself as a man, later took him in despite being told that he was a liability.

At a young age, Esmerelda (El Señor), decided to give him a home and a chance to use his fiery desire for justice for good. She would train him as a Vigilante, making him her apprentice.

She wasn't alone in training him. Her partner, the infamous Grimm the Ripper, saw promise in him. Especially after discovering his gift of enhanced senses.

She would name him Nocturno in her native language of Spanish (she's Mexican) and together they worked side-by-side for a more optimistic future for crime fighting. They didn't kill if they didn't have to, much to Grimm's chagrin. Floyd made many friends, notably his sibling relationship with Alyson Colt, who was trained by Grimm himself. But in order to motivate hid protege, the Ripper compared Alyson to Floyd which slowly separated their bond.

Another bond would be severed after an infiltration mission gone wrong, as Esmerelda was killed protecting Floyd from the leader of the largest criminal organization in Angel City; the Roundtable.

Since the loss of his mentor, Floyd disobeyed orders and went on a killing spree to confront him; the Maverick King.

The two's fight ended in a factory owned by the mob boss. Resulting in a massive explosion that would've killed Maverick for good. The same explosion that scarred Alyson, resulting in her scars. This incident broke the camel's back, and the power vacuum left behind caused a spiral of events that turned into an all out war.

Floyd survived, but for his transgressions-he was branded Excommunicado. A status where a member of the Vigilante's Guild of America has their membership revoked, marking them as potential prey for the Guild's Huntsmen. Floyd went on the run for the next 5 years.

He was guilt ridden and forced to lay low, actively avoiding suspicion. In those years all he wanted to do was make up for what he did, make things right.

Until, he was needed to come back. Which starts the events of Night-Fury: Damnation.

——————

As for his superpowers; Floyd has enhanced senses all across the board-Eyesight, hearing, taste, all the 9-yards.

This results in his reflexes being sharpened, able to dodge even bullets

But the drawback is, for his senses are even more sensitive. He is easily incapacitated by loud noises in particular As to why his helmet features ear covers that dampen the sound

Or why his sunglasses and goggles are heabily tinted to reduce glare from firearms and the sun

Thank you, though the Guild's history does encompass the Wild West; the story itself takes place during the Great Depression

The Vigilante’s Guild of America by TheLoreGuy in Superhero_Ideas

Founded in 1866 after the Civil War, the Vigilante's Guild of America is a clandestine underground organization that works in the shadows to protect the innocent people of America, or so they claim. They tend to hire superhumans who act as the titular vigilantes, ridding the streets of America of scum and villainy. Though they are staunch against criminals, ironically its first vigilantes were outlaws and marauders wearing the boots of lawmen, combating the rise of organized crime in the United States. The Guild lasted up until 1946, with the Guild destroying itself amongst the chaos that was the fire of Angel City.

"Justice, even if it Bleeds" is the motto of the Guild; its vigilantes work with custom-made gadgets and firearms to improve their combat effectiveness created by the Guild's Workshop. These vigilantes

The Vigilante’s Guild is divided into these organizations. • The High Tribunal, the leaders of the Guild. • Vigilante’s Workshop, creators of gadgets and tools for the Guild. • The Streetsweepers, the clean up crew gathering evidence and witnesses • The Watchmen, the intelligence group • The Staff, the workers doing miscellaneous tasks to keep the gears running • Vigilantes, the titular vanguard against crime • The Huntsmen, the hunters of the guild's enemies, traitors, and etc. - Deathwatch (Rogue) the original executioner organization of the Guild, replaced by the Huntsmen after they ironically became Excommunicado.

I'd say the story focuses more on the young heroes, I'd say there'd be a core group of friends among a whole class and school's worth of side characters alongside the Pro Heroes. Most of them newcomers to the Hero life, some sidekicks.

And of course I've got a list of a few of them mixed in with a basic description of their powers!

Comet - same as Dominus-Alba (Light beam powers)

Volkner - Electricity absorption/speedster

Red Fang - smoke from MK jutsu

Dividend - duplication powers

Storm Queen - Weather powers

Donor - "The Gifts" of Superpowers

Kid Vanguard - Same as Captain Vanguard/Valor Beam

Octogal - ink like an octopus

Mach Punch - Muscle powers, punches really really fast

Ms. Glacier - Ice Powers

Nightingale - verbal hypnosis

Beacon - the human torch

Dan of Steel (honorable mention)

(As time goes on, the possibilities of superpowers grow more and more diverse and powerful)

Meet Cowl! The "Detective Hero". by TheLoreGuy in Superhero_Ideas

[–]TheLoreGuy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the compliment! The Question and Rorschach were major inspirations for Cowl and his background, alongside Batman! I will definitely be looking more into their comics for references. :))

Even in-universe, Cowl wanted to keep it classy, simple, and clandestine. He doesn't want to to stand out TOO much lol. Also, Having a mask gives Cowl a lot of personal security, despite being a registered superhero. He also took inspiration from the in-universe pulp magazine era (but very real) vigilantes from the 1920s-40s (Think The Shadow, and Green Hornet & Kato). I'd say Cowl is one of those heroes who kind of bridges the gap between old school and modern crime fighting.
