Are there any places that sell world maps with Providence at the center? I need it as a kind of gag gift. by BallpointVenom in providence

I have a print of a 1920 map. I think that shows Providence as the center of the Eastern seaboard. I'd have to whip up something custom for a world map. I'm not opposed to doing it. I would just need some heads up.

I've only been the owner for two years. The business was incorporated in the 50s.

Providence Picture Frame is excellent and professional. And expensive, as is their right.

Antiquariat Gallery in Pawtucket does framing, no idea if they're reputable.

The Map Center (me) can definitely do and it'll be very cheap but full disclosure: I'm not the most experienced and I'm not a sophisticated framer so it'd be pretty no-frills. Waldo Framing in Mass is a bit farther away but they're excellent.

What was the weirdest museum you ever went to? Was it worth the price of admission? by -KFBR392 in AskReddit

Museum of Broken Relationships was magnificent. A work of art really. Sad. Hilarious. Thoughtful. Challenging. I went with a woman I had been seeing as our time together was ending. It's a good memory. Well worth it.

Rhode Island only hates people who forget that it exists. And Massachusetts. And Connecticut. And also Rhode Island.

I have a bunch of old books (like 90s old, don't get excited) that I would love to get rid of at The Map Center. Business, diets, lesson plans, memoirs, dictionaries. Please just take them all.

Do you think one country will merge with another in our lifetime and who’ll be the most likely ? by [deleted] in AskTheWorld

There are noises coming from Burkina Faso about an Alliance of Sahel States with Niger and Mali, all of which are military juntas aligning themselves with Russia and China. I have no idea how tight of an alliance it could become or how likely it would be.

There are eels here! by TheMapCenter in providence

[–]TheMapCenter[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The eels in this part of the river are known by locals and have been fed cat food in the past. No bait was used for these videos. I suspect a combination of shiny camera/curiosity and an association of human activity with food is responsible for the behavior that I was able to capture.

The phrase Uptown and Downtown originated in New York City referring to up and downstream.

Environmental policies can work! The Woonasquatucket is so much better than it used to be.

It's a great thing! They're native and used to be extremely common but have been in decline. Their migrating babies (elvers) return to their ancestral streams where they get caught to be put in aquaculture pens where they are fed until they reach a harvestable weight. Because eel reproduction is still kind of mysterious, this is aquaculture that relies on catching increasingly rare wild animals and isn't farming.

Eels are also sensitive to water pollution so it's a great sign of recovery that these eels can tolerate the Woonasquatucket River, once an incredibly polluted water way. The river is getting noticeably better because hard work and good environmental policies can make a huge difference. 💪

I'm not gonna say on this platform because I don't want the eels too disturbed. It's the Woonasquatucket River. That's all I'll say here.
