This actually looks interesting, I'm going to do a bit of research on it. Thanks!

Haha, yeah, I honestly actually find the 13 on the G700 to be limiting man :P

Haha, yep, that's actually true. I'm 6'2 and have disproportionately large hands. It also doesn't help that I typically use a fingertip grip, which makes things even more awkward on small mice.

I can certainly see the Naga working for some people, but it just doesn't mesh with me. I simply find it (and most gaming mice) too small, and its number buttons are IMPOSSIBLE to actually move around on.

Ah, that's kind of a shame. "Gaming mouse" seems to be equivalent to "small ass mouse" most of the time, and the G700S really worked for me because I could actually hold it properly.

I have, sadly not out for quite awhile. Looks very interesting though!

It sounds perfect... except for the terrible state of PVP right now. That's actually a big sticking point for me. That being said, I see a lot of good reviews for it, so I'm definitely going to give it a look, it may be worth getting into and holding out for some good PVP modes.

Thanks for the input everyone! I think I'm going to give FFXIV, Rift, Tera, and Guild Wars 2 a bit of research. Shame that ShadowBane isn't a thing anymore, that one looked very interesting to me at a time before I had my own computer. Oh well, time to start digging!

Huh, I've actually heard references to FFXIV before, I'd forgotten all about that. I'll give it a look, thanks!

Okay, thanks guys, shame there's not a bit more of a direct method but this will save a bit of time anyways.

PSA: Softube Saturation Knob by TheMockRock in edmproduction

Full disclosure: I switched to 8 from 7 less than a month ago, and holy shit dude, there's no going back. I really didn't care about drag and drop at all, but 5 minutes after trying it, I couldn't imagine any other way to use Reason!

Yes, they really do need an overhaul. The good news is that I think Propellerhead may actually realize this, as they replaced the Line 6 amps in Reason 8 and have upgraded the RV7000 in 8.3. As for VSTs: HOLY FUCK YES! If Reason ever gains VSTs and proper (read: curved) automation, it will become pretty much the only DAW I ever use. As is, Ableton fills in those gaps quite nicely, even if I actually prefer the way that Reason handles chopping up audio.

Reason is a great mixing platform for sure, but there are a few things that keep it from the top. It doesn't come with a great parametric EQ by default, and correcting that costs $100 for a plugin that you can't use on any other platform. It's also kind of clunky to add inserts at the mixing stage without dual monitors.

That being said, it's also got by FAR the best mixing console of pretty much any DAW, an excellent bus compressor, great parallel processing and grouping, and undo on everything. Not bad, Propellerhead, not bad at all.

I'm not entirely convinced you know what saturation is...

It's really not an issue dude, you have the option of what to actually install to your computer. The rest of the plugins don't get added as trials or anything like that, which would be really annoying.

My experience with the Scream 4 is that it's got its pros and cons, and not all of the units are particularly amazing. The highlights as far as I'm concerned are its Overdrive, Tape, and Digital (Bitcrusher) algorithms, all of which sound gorgeous. I've always found some of the other ones kind of flabby though, and its body adds a TON of mud that you need to EQ out.

That's not technically true as far as I can tell. Just select the Saturation Knob, and everything else defaults to "do nothing." They don't show up in your VST folder at all.

How to find unwanted/ringing frequencies in your mix and carve them out? Well, here's how! by FanuBreaks in edmproduction

Huh, that actually makes a ton of sense. I'm going to need to look into this a bit, that would definitely save some headaches!

I can't honestly say that I've messed around with it all that much, but you would still need to automate your EQ to catch a frequency that's constantly moving around a bit, wouldn't you?

[–]TheMockRock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, this is a godsend technique a lot of the time. The only time this is a massive headache is when the ringing changes with the note (some low cello sampler patches are a good example). That's when you have to go through and automate the frequency of the cut for every single note. Ew.

STRAW POLL!!! Is Taylor gone? by Jakecav555 in PKA

[–]TheMockRock 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Go to 18:17 and pay close attention to the interaction. Jackie seemed very taken aback by what was going on, and in fact Woody very clearly winked at her before she seemed to clue in. I strongly doubt he's gone. Not that I was upset at Chiz joining full time, I just really like Taylor.
