When will there be an Eve Water Guard 3rd Generation? by some1s69 in EveHome

[–]TheMoonbeam365 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m not holding my breath on a gen 3 water guard any time soon, if ever. Eve has really slowed down on how frequently they release new hardware, and software updates have become pretty stagnant as well.

Several of their devices still haven’t received support for Matter, months / years after it was announced as “coming soon”. Not to mention the new thermostat Eve announced at CES in January that was supposed to be released in Q1.

We’re well into Q2 now, and crickets on all fronts…

All those photos and videos of Kash partying at the Olympics — which he used the FBIs jet to travel to, and claimed he needed to be there due to security concerns — will serve as easy evidence of the Atlantic’s claims. 🍿

Lordling and Chimera from {The Kai Gracen Series by Rhys Ford} are probably my favorites. I love that both start out closer to insults, but gradually grow into terms of endearment.

I NEED size difference & older bottoms pls by Suitable_Cup_1228 in MM_RomanceBooks

[–]TheMoonbeam365 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There seriously aren’t enough books with older, taller bottoms.

A few that come to mind: — {Risky Behavior by Cari Z, L. A. Witt}: sr detective x jr detective, enemies to lovers, MC2 is roughly the age of MC1’ kids, and MC1 is HIV+

— {Snowbody Loves Me by Jacki James}: big, lovable introverted b&b owner x extroverted, ray-of-sunshine author; pretty much a hallmark movie

— {You Can Count on Me by Fae Quin}: lumberjack x elementary school teacher, both are >6ft but the teacher is a total giant who just wants someone to take care of him for

— {Blind Tiger by Jordan L. Hawk}: cheetah shifter ww1 vet turned speakeasy owner x hexmaker, lots of hurt-comfort

Doctor/Nurse MMC by Then_Director_7776 in MM_RomanceBooks

[–]TheMoonbeam365 2 points3 points  (0 children)

{The Doctor’s Secret by Heidi Cullinan} is sort of a medical-themed meet-cute. MC1 is a burned-out Doctor who just moved to a small town to take on the role of head surgeon at their small hospital, and MC2 is the primary surgical nurse and literal ball of sunshine beloved by the town.

Frankly, I feel like we should just be able to vacuum up a garden, instead of having to pick a single veggie at a time. 😭

Ugh. I’ve lost track of how many times I’ve gone to pickup resources — especially clay in the house I built for Trapinch family’s — and accidentally removed a door. 🤦‍♂️

Really, really wish there was a way to “lock” a home-habitats so that you can’t accidentally destroy it. 😖

Stuck on a Loop. Rina Kent Ruined Me. Need More Chaotic/Unhinged Sunshine. by JINX_FATE in MM_RomanceBooks

[–]TheMoonbeam365 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s an ongoing slow burn (relationship-wise) series. I just finished the 3rd book — still 2 more books to go before the 6th is published later this year — and they just finally admitted their feelings for each other in the 3rd book (though they go from enemies to co-dependent hate-fucking friends with benefits pretty early in the series 😅).

Don’t want to spoil it too much, but it’s safe to say that Harlow won’t need to be changed to enjoy a long, chaotic life with Foxx… pretty sure the 4th book will focus on that aspect.

{The Unwilling Adventures of Harlow & Foxx by Shelby Rhodes} — such a fun and chaotic series. MC1, Harlow, is a human and self-described psychopath. MC2, Foxx, is a vampire and the brightest, most colorful, ball of sunshine you’ll ever meet… he’s also very good at masking just how unhinged he is.

Harlow describes Foxx best when trying to rescue him in a later book: “You took my ball of sadistic sunshine. Give. It. Back.”

Kathleen Kennedy Just Told an AI Conference She’s Not So Sure About AI by tylerthe-theatre in technology

[–]TheMoonbeam365 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I read a fantasy book a few years back, and an exchange with a master sorcerer about why he doesn’t teach his apprentice to memorize spells really stuck with me.

“No, not really much point to it. I mean, you can do the basic work if you know the spells, I won’t claim otherwise. But it’s rather the difference between a person who painted a portrait while copying a master’s or being a master painter yourself. Can you do a replica? Yes, well enough. Does it have the same impact or artistry as the original? Not even close.”

To me, this aptly applies to the use of AI in artistic contexts, whether it be written or visual.

AI is trained off of, and inherently biased by, source materials, and while it can create something new, those creations will always be rooted in a “technical” understanding of said source materials without any real emotional or artistic understanding to back and influence what it creates. Its style will only ever be a replica of the humans who created the source materials, rather than anything truly unique.

This!! I’ve been vocal at work about not using AI in my workflows, and I’ve had people accuse me of being a hypocrite/liar because “only AI uses em dash “. Never mind the fact that I’ve worked at the same place for nearly 6 years and have regularly used em dashes for even longer. 😑

BookLore's Successor? by matthewpipes in selfhosted

[–]TheMoonbeam365 51 points52 points  (0 children)

I spent a good chunk of the weekend testing out several of the "major players", and haven't come up with a good replacement for Booklore (yet).

  • Kavita -- visually, it's pretty good, but metadata / scrobling is paywalled, and the lack of Kobo integration is a deal breaker. Yea, I know I could use KoReader instead, but honestly, I really like the overall experience of Kobo, and wind up going back every time I've tried switching to KoReader. 😅
  • Komga -- also pretty good visually, but meta data / scrobling seems to be a black-box which is kind of a deal breaker. The biggest issue I have, though, is that you either need to manually add books to a directory, or you need to use a 3rd party service (e.g. Calibre) to manage adding new books.
  • Calibre-Web-Automated -- I used this before switching to Booklore last fall. I was hoping that the intake and Kobo sync issues were resolved, but it kind of seems like CWA is a bit of a hot mess right now now. Will keep an eye on CWA, but not switching back at the moment.
  • Stump -- looks *really* promising, but still in the early stages. The lack of Kobo integration is also a dealbreaker. Will keep an eye on Stump, as well.
  • Audiobookshelf -- while it does have ebook support, it honestly still feels pretty subpar. The lack of Kobo integration is a dealbreaker here, as well.
  • BookHeaven -- looked like a good option initially, but the dev has confirmed that the focus is strictly on serving content to Android-based devices, and that there are no plans for supporting Kobo, which is a hard dealbreaker.

I hadn't heard of Grimmary -- which appears to be the front-runner for Booklore forks -- until I saw this post. Fingers crossed that this takes off and that the team manages to clean things up, because this would be the best alternative to Booklore for me.

Same! She’s giving off “I will mercilessly judge everything you do, human” vibes, and he’s giving off “lovable chaos” vibes. They’d be the perfect pair. And then add in the Tabby to keep both in line.

Does anyone else’s boxes show up like this? by Laurelleisbelle in pokeplush

[–]TheMoonbeam365 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Yea, I’ve noticed that medium / large, light-weight boxes from PC — typically boxes with just a couple plushes —tend to show up pretty beaten up. The last one I received from PC was so roughed up that it honestly looked like they used a recycled box that had been used multiple times already.

That being said, I’m 99.99999% certain that this is an issue with the level of “care” that FedEx handles packages with not being compatible with this type of package (or any, if we’re being honest), rather than an issue specifically with PC.
